  1. I just got done running the forge after finishing up the flue. I did not see your post about it being a bad idea until now. I put in a damper to block off the forge when burning the wood stove and I already had a damper on the wood stove. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I will look up the issues you talk about in the chimney/flue section. I haven't looked through that section yet.
  2. Hello All, this is my first post in IFI. I would like to say that I have enjoyed reading through the forum this far. I recently started to try my hand at making knives by stock removal. Now I have decided that I wanted to try forging some knives. My father-in-law gave me an anvil, and that got it started. I had built a small forge that I run charcoal on to HT my knives, but it wasn't big enough to do real work with. So I watch some YouTube videos and read on here, and settled on a design. I still want to make a clinker breaker, but just have got around to it yet. I am currently using a piece of angle iron that I bent into a U shape stuffed into the air outlet. The forge is made out of an old brake from a truck, and the table is 1/4" thick sheet that is about 2'x3'. The hood is 1'x2' and 1' tall at the opening. I put a 2" pipe union on the bottom to facilitate easier removal of the air and ash dump piping. The air is being provided from a hair dryer with a rheostat. I was pleasantly surprised at how I was able to control the air to the fire with it. I need to tie the hood into the duct work for my wood burning stove. The two will live side by side in my shop. Anyways, let me know what you think. I look forward to making some knives and other things with it.
