  1. Thanks Jason. Guess I better spark test all of them.
  2. Thanks guys. Ya it was love at first site. Frosty you have no idea how not true that is. Been looking for a couple of years. Even a blind dog will find a bone from time to time. Time to clean it up and anchor it to something. Jason nice score. How did you find out the small ones were D2? Your Google-foo is better than mine.
  3. Stopped by a garage sale yesterday and picked this up. Looked at the screw box and screw, paid the lady the asking price of $25 US and got gone before anyone changed their mind. The threads have very little wear. 4" jaws. Lucky day as leg vises in this area start at $100 and go up.
  4. Ben That looks great! Proud you shared!
  5. Das Late to the game . Congratulations !! It's a great thing when our girls look like there mothers. Enjoy every minute she will be asking for car keys and dating next week. Papy
  6. Ranchman Keep the pictures coming. Great project!
  7. Guilty on all your videos. To many things to take in at once. Keep em coming! BTW if the foot ware is safe and comfortable go for it.
  8. Yep I put my last (I hope) trans in my 51 Chevy with a floor jack. Juggling act was putting it mildly. Be careful! Remember it's not done correctly if your not bleeding!
  9. Das Better wish for two lifts...one for the jeep and one for the trany. The floor jack doesn't count as a trany lift btw. Das Better wish for two lifts...one for the jeep and one for the trany. BTW floor jacks don't count as trany lifts.
  10. MC I am a learning hobby smith. Did my hip a little over a year ago. It was bone on bone and hurt most of the time. I started back forging about 2 weeks after I got home VERY gently ( self defense). I could stand at the forge mid-summer for 8-10 hours on Saterday and go back out Sunday for some more. Before it was about 4-5 hours and I was done (totally)for the weekend. My full time gig is construction sales. Walking on wet muddy job sites, on and off scaffolding, up and down sometimes having to carry 80-100lbs of product. My bad hip was taking its toll. I find it hard to believe this would be a career ending surgery. At least in my case my activity has gone way up my weight down and my give a darn has come back. I can go for my 8-10 hrs real job and play in the shop at night? Do your self a big favor and go get it done now. I'm 56 and wish I had not put it off as long as I did. Do all of the rehab! Strengthen the hip and pay attention to any restrictions. There are a couple of ways to put the new hip in so do your research and make sure your doc want to do the procedure you want. Papy
  11. Done! May his recovery be quick and complete.
  12. A friend brought a box of files over several years ago. After soaking the lastest files in vinegar I decided to clean a couple in the box and found this one. It's marked Murcott Campbel. I'm hoping they forgot to add an l and that is Campbell. My google-foo is not great but Murcott Campbell was bought in 1944 by Heller. The blurb I found said in 1913 Murcott &Campbell was the largest manufacturer of hand cut files. The logo in the article was different than this so I have no idea when it was built. The file has plenty of cut left not sure what I'm going to do with it but it's coming out of the high carbon bucket and at least going on the file rack.
  13. Das I'd be real interested in a tool review on the Bauer once you have the "new" wore off. I have been looking for a brand named saw for a cou ple of years. The used ones are at almost new prices and the real used ones are shot.
  14. The Hammer strikes again. I should know better. Thanks for two good laughs today. I think my brain is still in Portland!
  15. JHCC your right. Thanks for correcting my reading. I have never seen a diamond shaped file it was just a guess. What quality is the file from Austria? All three files look to be in good shape.
  16. On a trip to Portland OR, USA my brother in laws father found out we were looking for "rust" and sent these home with me. Pretty sure the planer/jointer knives are HSS but when an 86 year old hands them to you, you say thank you! Second pic ,I think?, is a hand saw file. Anybody know? One file is made in Australia.
  17. There ya go! Ease those sharp edges and get started. Be safe and have fun.
  18. Bluesman for me chain is like potatoe chips...can't stop at just one.
  19. It's what ever I had in the shorts rack glued and screwed together. I'm going to put a couple of bands on it one of these days. There is a piece of cabinet grade plywood on the bottom attached to the 2x4,6 &8's. I use Titebond for glue always. If your close to where new homes are being built raid their scrap pile...after you ask! The builders have to pay to have it hauled off.
  20. Pirate also check out the improvised anvil sticky at the top of this section. All of the stickies are worth reading.
  21. Sand worked great on mine. Added some weight, set the metal solid and stopped the ring completely! It also lets you adjust the anvil up if needed.
  22. Das I didn't take it that way and I know your right. Thanks
  23. Das that's funny. Be funnier if you could see the size of my shop. If I "needed" an anvil think I would buy a new one at this point. But I just want one so I'll keep looking for a deal.
