According to wikipedia Festus Haggen had been a trapper, laborer on the transcontinental railroad, solider for the south, ended up Marshall Dillons second deputy. He repeatedly states that he refuses to learn to read, because he has no way of knowing whether what he reads is true. Doesn't sound like a bad idea, sometimes. Wish I could say I wasn't old enough to remember some of this, but young enough to remember all of it.

JHCC glad to see you got your stand done. I've been following all your design work. Keep everyone informed of how it works out. Michael another classic stand. I really like the cookie sheet on the "old" stand. My wife brought one out to the shop just the other day, sounded like she wasn't planning on making any more cookies on it! A tray with a raised edge on it always works well for tools. I have made sure for several years that any punch, chisel, ect. has a flat on it to keep them from rolling onto the floor, that way I don't have to bend over and pick them up!! I have also used a window weight as a hold down for a long time.

Center pins need to be high enough off the ground to allow lower chamber to fully expand. You might want to use movable weight to adjust air flow, laying on top of top chamber.

That is a nice looking hammer. I really like some of the additional bracing. My tire hammer was built about 9 years ago, use it almost every day.

Thanks Stan & Forging Carver. The set started with the anvil that a friend cast for me almost 20 years ago. I put it on the stand for a paper weight, and have added to the set over the years as "play time" allowed. Most of the work has been done since my shoulder surgery in mid. Nov.
