  1. I went with a heart. I can't post pictures though since it's all wrapped up. Thanks for the ideas guys
  2. I was thinking f something good like that, but I don't have any horsehoes. I was thinking I could do it with some square stock but I'm worried how to achieve the points instead of bends at the top middle and bottom of the heart
  3. Hey everyone. I'm in a bit of a pickle. My moms birthday is tommorow and I've got a few hours to forge something for a gift for her. I'm also hindered by my skill level of a beginner. Now I know what you are goingn to say, it depends on who she is. She likes knick knacks and typical pretty things for the home. Any and all ideas are welcome.
  4. Thanks to your guys help I am returning very happy from my outing. Thank you everyone. I've got 40 somethings feet of square and 30 something round. That should last me enough for a while.
  5. Thanks guys you saved me a lot of confusion. I thought what I was looking for was a36 but the structural steel designation confused me. I'm glad to finally be getting actual steel and not have to keep putting up with rebar
  6. Hey everyone. Im heading to check out a steel supplier today and I just realized I ddint do my research. Can anyone help me out here? What type of steel do I want? It would just be for beginner projects like hooks and objects of the same manner. What do you guys reccommend? I remember seeing [people sujjest 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch for sizes. But my dilemna is what type of steel to get. Can I just ask for mild or is it more complicated than that? Ill be checking on my phone so my replies might be a tad messed up, but thanks everyone in advance! I can't remeber who first suggested it, but thanks to whoever recommended Logan Steel. That where im heading now.
  7. Oh is it just a washer and the actual price pokes through to make it look like a hat? I'd've never thought of that
  8. Pine country forge how do you make the little cowboy hats?
  9. Is it insane to try to just take two nuts and using them on either side of the hardy hole to secure the bolt? Essentially bolting the bolt through the hardy? That way you can avoid the annoying upsetting job?
  10. Sorry guys my computer is busted right now and mobile is really glitchy for me. I wont be able to post for a day or two. Ben helps out wherever he is needed, staying with Aaron, doing menial task at camp, etc for the next few days.
  11. Ben feels kinda useless for not doing as much as he could. However, one of the things he does know is how to set snares. But, perhaps before we go all gung ho on setting snares we should find a better place to camp. Ill go with someone who has already explored so we can try and find the best spot to set up a new camp.
  12. Dude! Wow! That is sweet! That can of Welch's looks delicious. What a score man! I mean i guess the metal isnt bad either though...
  13. Sorry for being late here, I had Prom and memorial day with family. Ben decides to to help Clinton gether things to help out Aaron recover. He finds a stick that Clinton was looking for and helps him do more reppetitie tasks like making cordage and boiling and purifying water, etc.
  14. Hate to steal the thread, but anyone know a good source of coal near western CT? I asked some of the smiths near me but they either use gas or pick it up at the NEB meet which unfortunately I can't make it to.
  15. Ben settles down for a long night after listening to what aaron had to say. He has the last shift, so he props up a bunch of leaf litter under him and wraps himself in the blanket.
  16. TP said that they wouldn't be good for straight razors. They are more specialized for taking a beating than being really sharp.
  17. Ben starts looking around and finds a big evergreen. "Guys over here" he calls. The tree is about 1 and a half feet in diameter, with the boughs spreading out quite a ways providing shelter. It's not perfect, but it will due temporarily. So Frostig, whats in the packs?
  18. Ben does a quick visual sweep of the beach as well as yelling to see if anyone comes. He then offers to help with aaron or grabs some packs to carry them off the beach He follows Clinton and Max off the beach and above high tide.
  19. Ben is scurrying along getting all the packs and such off the beach and out of range of the tide. He doesn't worry about his arms just yet as there are more pressing matters to attend to.
  20. I was thinking a clock, but mounting it is the hard part. Im going to have a roofed in section of outside the garage for my forging and I was thinging I could hang it from chains from the beams. Any idea if that would work?
  21. Charles seems to know what he is doing, so Ben follows his lead to help secure Aaron and get everything else ready
  22. I believe that hammer is used for sheet metal, but I may be wrong. Still I use a very similar one and I like it for certain necessities.
  23. So on my property was an old railroad and while walking I found this. It weighs 140 pounds and is about 2.5 feet in diameter. Now I just need to find something to do with it.
