When I was quite a bit younger, I used to go to a large city park in my hometown where the LARP and SCA groups would practice. There was a local man who had a mobile forge and would make some of the coolest things I had ever seen. That was the day I fell in love with the idea of blacksmithing. Unfortunately, I've never been in a position to be able to pursue that, due to other engagements and family needs, etc. Over the past few years, I've started getting back into the things that interest me, and plan to eventually pursue some level of hands-on experience and practice with metalworking. Even if I'm terrible at it, I'm just stubborn enough to keep going until I'm either destitute from failure, or happy with the outcome. I have always enjoyed making things, regardless of whether anyone else enjoyed them or not. I don't foresee any sort of career doing this, but I think I will have both fun and frustrating times ... and I LOOK FORWARD TO IT!
