  1. Wednesday afternoon and the 5 pedestals I have found have no contact information. Several days of internet speed checks for an average and my internet is good for VOIP. Not perfect but it will be better than this.
  2. After the Glaucoma news this morning I am staying away from phones and any communication with anyone but immediate family. It is not cancer and it won't kill me but my vision is really that important to me. Knowing I am going to go blind is awful. As for contacting the family and letting them have it I am waiting for my wife to calm down a little. Her mom and dad have passed. All she has, really, are these two people. I will leave it up to her. She was just telling me the other day how she envied me being able to talk to my mom and dad.
  3. What size rubber band? I'm going to try this.
  4. This has been a tough week. First the phone issues started FridayMonday began with an urgent e-mail asking why I submitted a grant in the wrong format. After being told, by the entity I was submitting it to that it was right and NOT to do it the other way. They extended the deadline, because the application was done and as long as nothing was changed. The grant got submitted the way i was not supposed to do it. Crazy stressful though.Tuesday was one of those days where everything I did accomplished absolutely nothing. A nonstop day where I was constantly interrupted and pulled onto other thingsWednesday I start getting frantic calls from out of the country, No cell phone usage at work. Later that night I was informed by my wife who was getting the same freak out calls, that the emergency was a relative making Christmas Travel plans. We were not expecting them this year. Apparently there were discussions with other family members and it was decided that my wife and I would host. We were not included in these discussions. Apparently it was done on Facebook. My wife does not use it and I only use it very sporadically. Tickets have been purchased, we had no plans except relaxing so, ok, but then the other shoe dropped, One group has toddlers and their parents needs must be met (not necessarily the toddlers'). We have the space but our house is not toddler proofed at all. Our boys are 11 and 14. It wasn't toddler proofed when we moved in. My father-in-law had no desire to toddler proof so never did. A waste of time according to him. Then we were told that the back room, that has been used for storage for 20 something years (long before my wife and I moved here to take over the family business) needed to be emptied out so the toddlers would have a room separate from their parents. Parents don't want to be woken up. They are planning to put toddlers in this room in the winter and the heater has not been turned on in over twenty years as well. The last time we turned on one of the old base boards, in a different room, it darn near burned the house down. These people know this. Is it written somewhere that I have to love my wife's family? because at this moment they can go take a leap.To top it all off, this morning I found out I am in the early stages of Glaucoma in one eye. I really need to heat up some metal and beat the poop out of it. Not make anything, just beat on it.
  5. If you don't want it, I'll happily take it off your hands for 50 + Shipping. Even with shipping I will come away ahead. Use it.
  6. Honestly never crossed my mind to look for others. Thanks.
  7. Underground and that tag is so warn and faded there is no reading it.
  8. Move over. I'm bellying up to the curmudgeon bar for a healthy round of remember when. remember when, if you had a phone issue you called the phone company and they helped? With the state of the world today and the rapidly declining number of landlines it is getting harder and harder to get help when you need it. Every summer during hard rains our phone goes out. This year it happened just last week. Big rain and phone goes out. Our local phone place has been bought and sold so many times....well...I would get banned for saying it. I called the company who handles the phone lines and because I did not have an account with them they did not know what to do. I pointed out nicely at first that they were responsible for the lint to the business and I was responsible for it after that. They said I did not have an account. I asked for a local repair number to call. I did not have an account so no number. I tried to call my long distance provider to get the calls forwarded. After a LOOOONNNNGGGGG time on hold I was transferred to the wireless section. Guess what happened. SInce I did not have a wireless account with them they could not help. I kept saying transfer me to the business section or give me the number. The transfered me to business billing, which is different from business customer service. When I finally got transfered to business customer service they were closed for the weekend. Yesterday I could get a hold of anyone. I guess their weekends are long at AT&T land. Today I have spent several hours trying to get this fixed. Customers are angry and all I want to do is talk to a human who can forward my calls. The last human I talked to after being transferred to the residential section, said I needed to use the land line to set up the forward. After explaining calmly that the landline was dead, they told me to call the people who owned the lines. After explaining calmy to this person that I would love to but I could not get a phone number for them. I was told that they just realized I did not have a residential account with them that I would have to call the business section. I have no idea how many times I told her it was a business phone. I was transferred to the business section that was Remember when you called one number, talked to a nice person who helped?
  9. It tracks just fine but yes there is a tracking adjustment. Yes I inverted my shop just to take the images.
  10. I borrowed a 7x12 metal bandsaw Brand name probably came off twenty years ago. It is old and according to the owner bullet proof. His blade was trashed and one condition of borrowing it was putting a new blade on it. In the grand scheme of things this was not a bad rental fee. New blade is on but I can't get a straight cut to save my life. I have squared the clamp with the cut line. Then squared it with the blade. I am using a precision machinist's square. The blade is taught, the saw is not loose in the brackets. The material is square. I am at wits end. Any thoughts?
  11. Waiting to order new glasses until my follow up. Eye doc called (one of the cool things about a small town) and said I needed to see him again, The pressure in my left eye was too high and he said he was just not comfortable with what he saw of my optic nerve. I thought he spent too much time shining the second xxxxxxx sun into that eye. I get to go in for Glaucoma tests. He said if it is the start of glaucoma we are catching it real early and should be able to drastically slow it down. I like seeing things. Kinda bummed. Don't like waiting. Weird thing is no one in the family going back for several generations had glaucoma.
  12. Pardon my ignorance but how will you radius the edge like that with it laying in the stand. Brazeal's is up on edge. That is an awesome stand. I'm confused though.
  13. And it is an auto darkening helmet so now I really have no excuse . Ran several beads and some lap joints. So far so good.
  14. The pic is of my magnetic clip on sunglasses. Now here is the story. they were clean when I walked into the shop. A friend had finished grinding stuff about an hour before I walked in. It did not take long for them to grow fuzz. I wet wiped the counter I put them on because these fuzzies are a pain to get off the magnets. This is what was floating around. an hour after grinding was done.
  15. Mozied to the local welding shop and had the guy help me find a set of cheaters. I took my new helmet with me. After a little modification of the width they fit right in and WOW! Between the new helmet and the cheaters I can see what the heck I'm doing. Maybe I'll get some grandpa glasses and forgo the bifocals all together.
  16. It has happened. I have to get bifocals or progressives. Anyone have trouble welding with bifocals?
  17. Stick with what you have and know. Spend the money on known steel and coal. The bench and the grille sound like fun projects. The time will go fast so plan wisely.
  18. I see it all the time. Trace the shape with a sharpie. Mark the length with the sharpie. Then complain because your cut is inaacurate. Yes I'm venting. I watched a grown up measure and mark something with a sharpie. He measured twice because that is what he is supposed to do. He cut and what do you know he was off. In this case, too long. Nothing a grinder couldn't fix. He did it again and was too short. Obviously his saw is messed up. It couldn't be the fact that he was marking with a chisel tip marker. He had to make multiple cuts the same length and every one was different in the end. Wait, set up a stop at the length you need? Nah Takes too much time Maybe it is my woodworking back ground but when I mark something it is with as thin a line as possible. A scribe or sharpened soap stone. Heck a nail or flat head screw drive in a pinch, and how the heck hard is it drop a brick or piece of steel as a stop. Grrrr. Rant over.
  19. Yep. By a plasma cutter and discover how woefully under capable your compressor is.
  20. http://gingerybookstore.com/ books 1 and 2
  21. And all steel is knife steel as long as you quench it in oil. I just looked in 3 dictionaries, Webster, Cambridge, and the OED. My conclusion is....wait for it.....The general public is dumb.
  22. I do not have a machine to test the speed but I swear I am not getting full RPM. Heats up a bit too. This got put on the back burner so nothing was taken apart. No offense taken. I try to be as safety minded as I can but no one is totally focused all of the time. The cool thing about that part of my shop is it has only one outlet. Why is this cool you ask? I have to unplug one machine to plug in another. The only machine plugged in is the only machine able to be turned on. This is not the case in the larger shop. Some numb head came in once and for some dumb reason picked up a grinder and flipped the switched on. When it fired up it jumped out of his had. He wasn't hurt thank goodness, and neither was I. He got impolitely asked to leave when he said "How come it was left plugged in?" Apparently he was too dumb to notice I was welding something at the time.
