Sir Fleming College has a campus in Haliburton, they do a good blacksmithing course. Here is the phone number and email for the course contact 705-457-1680 ext. 6743 jennifer.bain@flemingcollege.ca  She'll more than likely be able to help you out.

Sorry for the late reply but thank you very much. I will contact her ASAP I am already 1 week overdue on the first draft of this assignment...

  2. Hello my name is Liam. I'm a college student in Ontario, Canada. I was wondering if I could possibly interview one of the blacksmiths on this website for a school project. The project is to write a profile on a topic or person. Blacksmithing is what I chose. I was hoping to interview over Skype or something like that and just ask a few questions. Some of what you say to me back be quoted in my project and it is going to be posted to a Blog I am writing for my class.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond I really appreciate it. Have a good day.

  3. Well I've been told they're softer then other anvils ect, rebound of my haybudden is about 80-85% and the Czech is about 50-60%. I just don't want to be buying something that's a step up from an aso been reading mixed reviews going to just have to get it and give it a try I suppose, and I would das but then I'd be out of another anvil :P I want a euro style one

  4. You got yourself a bargain there! I think the first thing you should forge on it would be a small thank you to the scrap dealer. Just good PR ... and you never know what else may turn up in that scrap yard.

So I took your advise though it wasn't the first thing I forged, this is what I made him it's my first try at something like this but I think it turned out alright

  5. Oh yeah oops..... shows what I get for staying up to about mid night all the time.... making myself look stupid...

You got a bargain there mate. Just don't get any ideas about 'fixing' those torch marks - you've got plenty of fine anvil around them. Happy forging! :D

Don't worry the torch marks stay I've been working around them so far, and I don't plan on doing something like ruining the hardness by welding, grinding, or the worst of them all milling it. I was cringing as I typed this thinking about it happen...

  6. Yeah I'd say, I guess the scrap guy was holding onto it until someone came into ask for one that someone was me, I got a great deal on it though considering I got it for 275, And as my first anvil I couldn't be happier. So far it's helped me make my first two pairs of tongs :)
Also in case anyone happens to be interested It's been dated to 1910, so that makes it 115 year old which is super cool

  7. This is my anvil around 300lbs Hay Budden I got from a scrapyard :) Cleaned it up now, probably going to make a metal stand with angle iron and tube steel fill with saw dust and oil then add a rubber base to it to kill the ring. In the background you can see the piece of rail road track I started with, smaller one was used for a flat face and edgesIMG_0016.thumb.JPG.687da708758d24e2fe83aIMG_0017.thumb.JPG.f77272e4f6c96f725fe50
