  1. Very nice Pine Country Forge, I'll save that one to memory for later.
  2. I paid £0.35 a pound for my 260lb forging anvil just over a year ago, and the guy selling knew what he had. Anvils aren't getting more expensive if you don't buy overpriced anvils. Like Thomas said if it's too much dough seek an alternative.
  3. Shame about the lack of history of It. Lovely anvil!
  4. I can recommend Dave's dwarf forge if you see him at the gathering or stratford. Very simple to set up and works great (when you don't put damp coke in it, silly me -.-).
  5. Thanks Ben, I think I may have changed location after what you have said. The front garden has a makeshift driveway to accommodate an extra car already, I could make it better by concreting it and extending it enough for a proper carport as well as a forge. Might have to cut the fruit trees back abit albeit Thanks for your time, Sam
  6. I'm new and from Oxfordshire, so not so far away! Welcome to IFI!
  7. I still havn't set up shop since I'm still living with my folks. They are planning to get me to gravel / slate chip the backyard. Is this a suitable surface to put a basic pole shed upon? P.s. to Dave aka the Iron Dwarf, would you recommend some sort of flue, exhaust pipe if I'm going to be using one of your forges in an enclosed space? Thanks in advance!
  8. Sorry for the necropost but as requested; underside of the anvil
  9. Grafters do their boots in a 4ee, at £45 they are very reasonable. One of the few options for us in the UK without costly US imports. Why do they do footwear so much better in the states?
  10. Haha, awesomely piece of kit Judson Yaggy. I dream of stuff like that. (Bar the space needed albeit)
  11. You're right about the stand. Lovely anvil though! Steel face on a cast body would be 1850+ for a farriers's anvil I guess. Cue the anvil pros
  12. A written history can just as easily get mistranslated or lost to history; You only have to look at the roman catholics and how bizarre their brand of Christianity has got through mistranslation from the original Aramaic. It happens
  13. I take it your still going to the Adventure Overland at Stratford on the same date? I will definitely be there on the Sunday; Either with a good friend or the missus depending on who wants to come with me! Sam
  14. Those V-Bit bolt tongs look great for smaller stuff! Jealous!
  15. Well done on the hard work! Your Anvil is most impressive too!
  16. I'm rarely far from a D20 and a pile of rulebooks. Gave you something to take your mind off xxxx jobs at work!
  17. Right'O! Off to the 'flee'ce market today and see what I can find. I wont be too disappointed if I don't find anything now! Thanks for the advice & for going to the trouble of adding a comphrehensive answer
  18. Thanks for your input! Since im only starting out I suppose general use would be whatever stock I can get my hands on; Is there a specific design of tongs that can accomodate a fairly wide variety of tasks from the off or do you basically have to have a pair for each task?
  19. Would 5/16 V Bit tongs be too small for general use? http://www.stromsholm.co.uk/toms-hollow-bit-tongs-14-516-38-or-58-1477-p.asp < Currently on clearance @ 14GBP
  20. No Andy, it is a punchmark around what is a very small hole (too small to be of use for much). The hole does open up into a larger rectangular space underneath the horn though.
  21. Flour yeilded no marks. Ill just get my friend to help me lift it round the back; We managed to get it over the lip and out of my saloon car so anything is possible!
  22. I intend to get a nice cheap pair of tongs to get me going then (like Charlotte said) make them for the experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e3Wox3pxK4 < This seemed like a relatively easy video to follow (he uses railroad spikes for his)
