  1. A friend who owns a flee market gave me the little anvil a while ago and it instantly became my favorite! The funny thing is, it actually looks like it's been used. Jewelers work maybe? It's milled on every surface and nicer than the little cast anvils I;ve seen for jewelers and leather workers. Don't know if I'll ever use it but I'm digging the paper-clip forging idea Frosty!
  2. The palm swell looks comfortable and the grain is starting to pop! Looking great!
  3. Great looking knife Urthman! I enjoyed reading your posts because they show that you're trying different things! You are 100% right about asking knife makers about tempering. I can get ten opinions from three guys all in the same conversation. My best results always come from trial and error. It's always a trade off for me between edge retention and toughness. If the blade will be used for flesh I dont worry too much about flex, if it's going to be a chopper or camp type knife I try to make a pry bar with a R54 edge. Thanks for the tip about the pipe to tame the temp swings in the oven. I'm using a toaster oven with some refractory added and I've never trusted the actual temp settings on the controls. Time to add an oven thermometer! Again, Great looking knife!
  4. Thank You Frosty. I'll update my info. I've already spotted several local blacksmiths on this site that I know. Great resource material here too!
  5. Forged Scramasax I'm not sure if this counts as a short sword or if it's a really big knife. The blade is 13 inches long with a five inch tang. I forged it from a truck leaf spring which I think is 5160. The forged chain and belt hanger are mild steel. The handle is red oak and the overal length is 19".
