  1. That's great, and some nice Oak as well!!
  2. I got my 110 power just about squared away, then hung a single LED fixture, and my clock radio up and threw a hissy fit! Some LED's are not clean, I found an EMI filter on-line and ordered that, onnacounta I don't want to pack the light all back up, then try to refund it. So, the drop light is still on duty.
  3. It will all be worth it. I know that when I build a structure, there is always a starting point for reference. A "datum", which can be a point, or a line, or even a plane. Just a reference in space that all the other measurements are "pulled from". Whenever there is something that lands off kilter, I often go right back to the datum and check all my measurements to pin down the culprit. It is looking awesome!!
  4. ....as only "The History Guy", can tell...
  5. I agree, it looks like an "R". We'll just call him Bob. It's a metric stamp, 139 kilograms = 306 pounds. Here are a couple of the sellers pictures;
  6. "Let's put it on.", Agent K. "Put what on?", soon to be Agent J. "The last anvil you'll ever need.", me. Certainly the last one I'll be able to "not" afford. I smashed the piggybank, then ran it over with the truck, then kicked all the pieces down the storm drain. And I need to get back out to the roof job instead of hunkering down under cover of tarp. It seems I can slide it around ok on the pallet. I doubt I could lift it though. Not without mechanical advantage. It rolls pretty nice!
  7. I've been forced to break from the roof job onnacounta it's raining today. I tarped the thing over for now. It's a much improved use of the footprint space by vaulting the finished height. It all stayed dry underneath, but taking the tarp on and off this season will get old fast. Roof work in weather seasons ain't the bees knees.
  8. "By Grabthar's hammer we live to tell the tail!", Dr. Lazarus.
  9. JustAnotherViking, that is SO cool!! Reminds me of the book "Mousehole Forge" by Mr. Postman.
  10. Yea, that's what I'm talking about! I could see the table in the picture!!
  11. You gonna to throw earth's gravity a curve ball with all that mass.
  12. I always say get a transformer stick machine. Wire fed machines are Jekyll & Hyde when it comes to penetration and cold lap. A buzz box and an acetylene torch will get you down the road; my bread and butter. And, (almost) any stick machine can run tig (with the right accessories).
  13. DANG IT, I just bought a new 1/2" ball bearing too!
  14. That's a lot to pull out of a one car garage.
  15. Piecing together old trailer axle tubes for rafters. Stopped down to eat dinner, now back to clean up the mess....
  16. Improvised anvils have a lot going for them, mainly cost. I grew up using the back of bench vises to cold work things, and I've broken a few bench vises that way. Breaking down some rollers, probably from a plant closure. They would make nice chunks for something!
  17. I just got done replacing the rusted out, steel reservoir in our System One industrial washer, it took me all day Friday. (I wonder if I have a picture.) (It's gets no respect, I tell ya.) Today I finished reinstalling all the plumbing and putting the solvent back in. We pay something like $50.oo a gallon for that solvent and it gets regular service from our vendor. So when it started leaking out all over the floor, we had the business owner start calling around. He found a replacement tank made from $tainless steel. Real nicely tig welded tank, the old tank was mild steel, and condensation slowly ate through it everywhere, leaving rusty pinholes. Those rusty colored spots on the left of the motor are all pinholes. I have no idea what formula of solvent they use though. It functions well for cleaning parts, and dries by the end of the day if left alone. Brake parts cleaner is way different! Fast drying, harsh, no lubricity. I would try mineral spirits, which can no longer be bought in this messed up state.
  18. Keep walking. ... (Listening to "The Ventures" in my head.) https://youtu.be/WW21rcHiVU0
  19. You're off to a start! Over my head a bit, following.
  20. The 5th picture is of a USMC Officer's sword with the ivory handle, and an NCO's sword in black if I am not mistaken. Happy 244th Marines.
  21. Gonna be SOME window! ~~~ Roof job. I tore down the rotten half where the steel tubes are now, but termites got into the grey side also. I spent one full summer raising that grey, shed roof. Sad to say I gotta remove all of it I'm afraid. Getting close to the rainy...but I need to protect my forge tools, and the garage is no place for me to play with fire.
  22. I think this one was born here, and didn't want to leave. So, it just invites itself inside for food and naps.
  23. As far as welding cables being wrapped around it, the polarity matters. If AC is the polarity you want, then by all means wrap your work cable around the waist several times and run some weld bead somewhere that needs it.
