  1. I locate Pawn Shops that are close enough to drive to...then I call around and ask if they sell online...ebay mainly. I tend to get the tools really cheap, and am able to get them over others because I can avoid shipping charges by picking up locally... If they have a free shipping, offer a lower price buy it now....do a local pick up....They usually are interested in avoiding ebay fees...so they might just let you go pick up without ebay middle man.. Yard sale and swapmeets are good too.... But Pawn shops tend to have a good selection
  2. I have good ones, I just mention harbor freight if the cost is a issue..... Ive been lucky acquiring them....
  3. Go to harbor freight and get a cheap one....you're looking to do more work without one
  4. I have 4 of them... I think they are priceless in some projects.... Just can't do without.... That being said...DANGEROUS ...like others have mentioned... Take your mind off what you're doing for even a millisecond you are going to regret it...either ruin your project or ruin your body... 2 days ago I was using my big Makita and it nicked me....As in WENT THROUGH MY THICK LEATHER GLOVE AND MY SKIN ON MY FINGER LIKE A PLASMA CUTTER GOES THROUGH SHEET METAL....I'm just happy I only lost under a inch of skin though it went deep... SPARKS FLY LIKE CRAZY....I left a shop rag about 4-5 feet from where I was grinding on my welding table....and sparks were hitting it for a second...AND IT CAUGHT FIRE! I think I might be a good example of what NOT TO DO on some things... I have 2 smallish 4" grinders Dewalt and Milwaukee...1 Medium Dewalt and 1 Big Makita.....each are good at different things...I leave different stones and cutters on each because I use each so often...IT HELPS HAVING MORE THAN ONE! MAKE SURE ITS COMPLETELY STOPPED BEFORE LAYING DOWN! YOU CAN SLOW IT DOWN FASTER IF YOU WANT BY TOUCHING A DESIGNATED OBJECT FOR IT FOR STONES ONLY.. If it doesnt have a guard, watch your fingers where you hold it, if you're using wider stones or cutting wheels...you can still hit your fingers... I kind treat the grinder like when I'm welding....sparks fly...so protect yourself..
  5. I had a hard time locating a good size spring....so I welded 4 bolts onto the bottom of the square tube...then I bought two long smaller springs and cut them in half...then threaded them onto the bolts...so I can keep them inline and slide down the tube without losing control of my springs....I also put one big washer in between all of them (welded to center) to keep them from sliding I might try for a knife....maybe big kitchen style
  6. Thanks guys! I used the metal ruler and I ground down the bumps...and I made sure the wheels are aligned.... I got the thing running and the belt stays on! Going to try it out tomorrow! I was sooo frustrated....and when it finally worked... I literally teared up. If it wasn't so heavy I would of thrown it a 100 times! Im my worst enemy on projects....I have a hard time quitting when Im behind... Thanks again guys...
  7. Well I took off the platen and ground it down, no more bumps. Going to try and realign the wheels now....going to grab a steel/aluminum ruler...
  8. I think I have aligning issues.... Maybe add and subtract some washers here and there...
  9. Have it all together...except my on/off switch...which is just hanging. My issue now is belt keeps sliding off! Ugh! Anyone have ideas on belt stability?
  10. I need to take breathers...trying to build out what I have available around here. except the wheels (oregonblademakers).. Trying to build like a few others I've seen...but I keep messing up on some parts...had to remake the tracking wheel bracket no less than 3 times... have a few bent welds lol hopefully it won't hinder function Trying to figure out what motor to use.... Going to try to get it pieced together in a couple hours and provide some pics... Just getting real frustrated and making more mistakes...
  11. I know this is my first project...Platen bracket for a grinder I am making...And it will take time and practice...but its pretty hard to keep a steady hand...A slight wiggle, cough, or slip in concentration and this plasma cutter can ruin your day/project easily...The steel is nothing to this cutter, it cuts likes a marker, you move it leaves a hole. I cut a full size railroad track in half today....it was a ugly cut, I went from two sides...But its scary powerful....I did slip and got a splash
  12. I like the lawn ornaments idea...thanks!
  13. YEEEEHAAAAWWW! GOT THE PLASMA GOING! I got some welding done, so I jumped over to the plasma and cut out a piece for a new knife grinder I'm making...and I felt like I was drawing in steel....(did noticed the ground after Yikes dirty!) Now I'm brainstorming what I can make... I need to add some cash flow around here, things have been all bad lately.... Any Ideas on some projects that a plasma can dish out ...Simple is good though...
  14. Could be a barrier...but wouldn't you just make a barrier and be comfortable....but only two reasonings I can think of off hand is....either he has a unknown medical issue he prefers to stand that way while he man's the blower or he is spread out for visual effect....maybe he felt he needed to spread it out lol
  15. My "local" is about hour to hour and 15 minutes away.... Prices are about $25 for 50lbs
  16. Well no wonder I couldn't figure it out lol Thank you.... I just thought it had a nice solid feel to it....but just had to know what it said. Going to clean it up and try it out Thanks again!
  17. Will keep rain in mind...if it ever rains... Its been so long I fear the rain has a grudge against me and refuses to show.... I think tombstone whenever I look at welder...maybe grab some paint and it get it ready for halloween...put a RIP on it...add some cracks and pits lol Going to practice with it soon...I noticed they are on alot of county work trucks around here.
  18. Picked it up but never seen the what I believe to be a 800 mark and some writing i can't make out...
  19. Well that answers that lol I have some wheels in mind...10" or better.... Thank you.
  20. I have a good auto darkening helmet....but now I think I will invest in another one, keep my good one for my mig and plasma.... I didn't count on the splatter attacking my shield... Cracker Box! This little red box is going to have a identity crisis... So I guess I need to take alot more careful on where I weld .....love my mig clean and easy...but I hear good things about stick.. Any electrical shock warnings or issues? I heard it mentioned. But no scenarios or warnings yet heard. LOVE THE FRACTIONING SYSTEM GLENN! Thank you... Even though its on wheels, think I am going to make a cart for it, bigger tires for mobility out here in my sandy areas....
  21. Well It was a package deal $115...(got a bike with it, goes to my kid :*)) I don't have a stick welder and I hear they come in handy.... Any comments questions and suggestions are welcome... Safety info is appreciated too! I hear almost everyone has/had them at one time or another... Tombstone...Buzz Boxes....Is what I heard just today from friends that referred to it...Its AC only... I have 7018 1/8" and 6011 1/8" & 5/32" sticks for it...
  22. Oiled compressors cost a fortune around here... Always looking for a good deal on one.... But going to mush on with this set up for a while at least...
  23. And the hits just keep on coming! Went to try out my plasma cutter once again....heard a crazy rattling from my "new" compressor I got on the cheap (60 gal)... Well I know why it was cheap...Piston exploded lol Well I had to learn how to repair a compressor pretty quick... Old and New one in photos...Good news only took 10 minutes to replace....
  24. The first time I used it, was out back in wide open space...2 months later I can still smell it on plants/fence 100 ft away...and snow? what is this thing you call snow? lol Cactus Country here....but I get the point. It does have the Port on back...I did download the very thick book.. Will update on my progress on next use with the new compressor...
