  1. The one with the leather handle I got with 3 other hammers for 10 bucks. Got some Atha's, Hellers, Craftsman, Plumb, and some other types. Tongs where a bit more. But I figure I can refurbish the ends as my first project. The little stubby sledge is pretty cool. I think its my favorite one too...Has a nice curve to it. So it levels to the piece you strike with your swing. (was playing earlier lol)
  2. I want to alter some tools into different designs. Maybe add some cool markings.
  3. Though I really liked all, the rail track one is just xxxxxxxx cool lol But I am getting a lot of ideas.... Thanks!
  4. Going again this saturday(before work lol) and sunday
  5. heres a couple days haul...alot of it I got cheaper if I bought 2 and 3 at a time..
  6. Im greener than green. Im still trying to figure out tempering. hardening. cooling in oil, cooling in water. I swear it gets more and more confusing. Put it in oil. Don't put it in oil Put it in water, don't put it in water.....cool it quickly, let it cool slowly...cool it in oven...cool it in sand...cool it on forge...let it air cool.. A bit over whelming. I NEED BLACKSMITHING FOR DUMMIES!!!
  7. I scored on a lot of steel at swap meet today....big ring axels stuff and a machinist retiree score!
  8. I will check again... I just wanted the swage to try a few ideas on...I am just starting out...putting the cart before the horse...hard not too...I did score at the local swap meet. A old machinist had alot of good stuff. Alot of piece I can turn into a variety of hardy's And about half dozen tongs.. And score on a lot of steel, big rig axels stuff...And milk crate full of variety of hammers and axes...vices , draw knives, etc etc...IT WAS LIKE THEY WANTED TO GIVE IT AWAY THIS WEEKEND!
  9. Thats actually pretty cool. When I need to do something to it, if I made it?
  10. That would be awesome. Since I paid $25 for 25 pounds on ebay. I will look around again
  11. Can I use a 3" x 3" square 3/4"thick Jewelers hardened steel block as a flatter hammer end? Two listings one says this..."Made of heavy case hardened vanadium steel"
  12. $800 ::gulp:: I think using plates is a pretty good idea in theory so far. AND ALOT CHEAPER. I think I will attempt it. I have a Miller Mig....Might as well put it to work.
  13. Those are really cool Biggundoctor! I am completely new to all this. But I am trying to branch out from woodworking. Swiveling post vise is great idea... I am still looking for a post vise I just watch this video this guy used a swage block very convietly making a Flatter hammer. Upsetting plate seems more logical choice because of the shape and thickness after several responses to that logic.
  14. Its 2 1/2 thick and 20" diameter. Those swage blocks cost more than anvils!! But not sure how to cut it lol or if I am missing something in this idea
  15. I thought of making a different stand for the anvil. And using the round heavy plate for something else.Maybe a big anvil type striking surface...no clue really. But my mind is working on something....Loving the anvil more and more....
  16. It seems as solid as the steel plate I got with my other anvil. As you can see in my other post 1923 Fisher Eagle Anvil.... Doesn't seem like it was made cheaply....which I was happy about.
  17. I just never know what I come across and I have to make a judgment call. But people here sure make me feel better after I make my decisions good or bad. Thanks again.
  18. Its about 80 pounds or so. No markings. Good ring, maybe little use at best. Again, got it with a hammer. $125.00 Did I win or lose with this...
  19. The face is intact. But there is a big nick in the front corner close to the horn. But all in all the face plate seems flat and pretty smooth. I think it was yard art for a while. I am in the high desert. Alot of things on display up here. I recently picked up alot of hammers of variety. Im still trying to figure out what they each are used for. The hammer that came with the Anvil is a Atha which I hear is good or ok. I picked up a heller, warren, plumb, and few other names. Some tongs etc... Seems I can't really plan what I find. But I am picking things up pretty steady. I have a guy coming tomorrow and delivering a old forge with blower. Royal Western Chief Blacksmith Blower Rustic forge. Anyone know anything about this?
