  1. I bought one of the outdoor bernzomatic torches JT850 Self-Igniting Outdoor Torch (JT850) for a little more heat when I don't want to fire of the forge. I want to 'mount' it in a fixed position so I have both hands free. I cut down the tube and moved everything up to shorten the length. It now will not burn at all. My last try is you guys- can WE fix it or toss it out as a bad plan? Thanks, Dave

  3. Well... my build is almost done. Took ideas from everywhere and then boiled them down to a final. Will get it finished and tested and then make a short vid of it working, and post it here in this thread. Dave
  4. Eric- Glad you are getting some good from it... I started my research here on IFI by searching the forums for leaf veiners and didn't get any hits except for the hand chisel type. Thanks for the link and the PDF doc- both very useful! Saw Mark on youtube but not any pics of the tool- just the area where he is striking the leaves. Thanks again Dave
  5. Tired of setting my gloves on fire! I am far enough along on the one in my head to realize I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Thanks Dave
  6. Check the blacksmith tool sites and print out a few pics with dimensions for them.
  7. Thanks for sharing, Don. I would say even more but I have some 3/8 mild to heat and beat in the shop :)
  8. I ran across a post somewhere that showed a pendant made from 3 quarters brazed together, then heated and smooshed....

  11. Just bought a bick for use on my anvil. The stake is tapered. Can I forge this down to square to fit or must it be ground to fit? Thanks!
  12. I was warned years ago not to melt copper in my forge- that metals would never again weld in the forge...
  13. Great job on first knives. It does get easier and you will fear the tools a little less, but the abrasive belts are very able to give you very nast burs and abrasions. Avoid the edge of the belts like the plague- they will go completely to the bone before you realize you shouldn't have your fingers where they are Where might I buy some of the pepper wood you used? It is terrific looking. Dave
  14. GREAT video- thank you for taking the time to share it!
