  1. This is just a few blocks from my house. I estimate its 80 percent rail spikes. Could be more or less because when I rode my bicycle there to check it out something happened to my brain turning it to mush at seeing all those spikes :-) WOW. What a load!!!!!! Now I have to try to find the right person a BNSF to get permission to salvage that pile.
  2. Finally found a hammer at a garage sale. Unknown brand but the face is hard enough to be chipped. The file scates good. The pien is soft enough to be deformed by use. Defiantly some differential harding here. I finally have something to experiment with from a heat treat standpoint that only cost 2 bucks.
  3. I think Alec is devoting all his time to his YouTube channel and has not made any hammers in a long time.
  4. Thats funny das. Back in 1980 or so my bubby the drum player had a cracked symbol and I said "I know how to braze, lets try it" Just ended up melting a big hole in it. Flame torch brazing. LoL. I was 16 then but I would like to try that again with the pulse welder.
  5. Your right das. As soon as i posted i realized that weding brass with brass might not work.
  6. Have you used the silicon bronze mig welder. We can run that through our pulse welder. Lays a beautiful bead. And I'm thinking with the instant heat a mig gives and with some wet rags the heat affect zone may be minimal plus you know it will be strong.
  7. Welcome SLS. When I was growing up we called that peavy a "cant hook" Don't ask me why, thats just what my dad and granddad called them. Love your workshop. At first I thought it was a postcard pic untill I saw the 2nd pic.
  8. Do you have pics of the Impala and mustangs? There is not just smiths here but gearheads too :-)
  9. Yup. Thats nice. Makes me want to go fishing!
  10. Here's Einstien. He came in and decided he wanted to be brushed. He loves a wire brush like the rest of us.
  11. Its not a sign but a poster wifey gave to me when I was between jobs. Its been hanging on the walk in door to my garage/shop since 1998. Still looking for that job :-)
  12. Hey das. I have one on my chimney too. Mine points down to pour the shoes luck into the shop and one on the house to collect the luck of the shoe. I read this somewhere. Please correct me if my folkyor is incorrect.
  13. Use the sway as a bargaining point and explain that it has a sway because the main body was made to soft unlike other higher quality anvils that remain flat through the years. It could get you into the $3/lb range.
  14. I found my 5 1/4 inch indian chief through a cl misspelling. He had it listed as a bench vice and wondered why I was the only one that called. :-)
  15. Thats barley big enough to Leia hammer on
  16. I like it. Very clever. Now I have to make one for the wifes flower garden.
  17. That's awesome. He fried eggs in a new pan and they did not weld themselves to the bottom. Impressive. Cool video. Not so sure of the mask, but if that's your gimmic then carry on. I wonder what that creature is in Jims slack tub at 5:12 . Thumbs up from me on the vid.
  18. Congrats! Job well done.
  19. I was going to offer up a scenario where you could "make it work" but on second thought Im going to say send it back because this is a brand new machine and why have not have it perfect.
