  5. He used EPOXY to glue the handles !!!!!!! the one he used was short time set and this one is britle and faling appart after some time. Hofi
  6. The glue that I am useing to hendle the hammer is SIKAFLES 11 FC AND I ONLY GLUE THE HANDLES AND NEVER WEDGE. I glued already hundreds of hammers in many sizes ans none of them went loos. the hammer eye is having a duble taperd cone (x) to the middle of the eye 3 degrees. on the handle on the part that goes into the eye I grind surretions all around that hold the glue much better. beffor smearing the glue in the eye I clean the eye with thinner to take away any oily remanents for better glueing Hofi

  9. My mame was mentioned here several times and I want to clear some points from my point of view. In my smithy and school I have ALL types of hammers to show my students the veriety of hammers in the smithing world. There is NO contrediction between the hammer types and one is useing the hammers according to the need. I forge ALL the types of hammers according the order and the will of my customers . I myself used the straight pein hammer only once in the last 21 years only because I was asked by one of my student to demo it .the diagonal hammer I NEVER USE because I do not fined a need or a reason to use it. 95 % of my forging and I forge a lot is done with the cross pein hammer and to day or the last 5 years I forge mainly with the cast crosspein hammer because it is the most balanced ergonomic hammer . I personaly do not like the phrase ''do what is good for you'' this is allways a cover for not learning another way that might be better only bacause one is used to a wrong or inferier way of forging. I KNOW IT IS NOT EASY TO CHANGE. Hofi
  10. SORRY FOR THE DELAY WAS VERY BUSY ON SOME PROJECTS I am not in the USA and I do not know the local rules !! at my smithy and school the wales are made from concrete bricks so fire is not a problem but when I built the ozark school were the walls were made of wood I fabricated another sleeve on the tunnel and in between I GAVE A 1'' layer of kaowool (ceramic blanket ) to isolate the wall from the tunnel heat.the wall was covered with 1/2 a mm sheet metal to prevent the sparks to catch fire with the wooden wall. The distance between the wall and the center of the forge fire is 20-24'' Hofi
