  1. GRANT SARVER
I NEW THE LATE RUSSEL JAQUA PERSONALY I MEET HIM TWICE AND HIS BEUTYFUUL WIFE.
WHEN I DEMONSTRAT AT NWBA RUSSEL WAS VERY KIND TO LET ME DEMO ON THE ''GLADIETOR''
TALKING TO HIM ABOUT THE ANVIL I SAID -THIS IS A COPY OF THE ITALIEN STYLE- AND HE SAID YES IT IS
LONDON PATRRN ANVIL YOU HAVE MORE THEN 100 DIFFERENT TYPES AND HERE MAY BE YOU TRANSFER TREDITION.
BUT WHEN ONE MAKES THE SAME IT IS A COPY .
THER IS NO OFFENCE BY SAYING THAT SOME ONE COPYID A FORM AND RUSSEL WAS HONEST ENOUGH A MAN OF INTEGRITY TO SAY ''YES IT IS A COPY.
IN MORE THE THREE PLACES IN THE USA THE HOFI HAMMER IS COPYID THE SAME IN PAKISTAN AND IN CZHCK REPUBLIC
SOME OF THEM EAVEN SAY THAT THEY INVENTED THE FORM -GOOD FOR THEM-
I MY SELF SOME TIMES COPY A NICE FORM THAT I SAW SOME WERE AND DO IT MAY BE IN A DIFFERENT WAY BUT ALWAYS ALWAYS I GIVE CREDIT

  2. THE SHAPE OF THIS ANVIL IS ITALIEN SHAPE
ONCE UPON A TIME IT WAS CAST IN ITALY
TO DAY IT IS CVASTED IN CHAINA
IN EUROP THEY ARE SOLD BY ANGELE MASCHINENBAU
ONE CAN FINED THE ANVIL IN HIS CATALOGUE
IN FOUR SIZES 20-35-50-75 KG WWW.ANGELE.DE
THE NIMBA ANVIL IS A COPY OF THIS TRADITHINAL ITALIEN ANVIL

  3. THE BASIC IDIA IS TO PUT THE TABLE APPART AND INSYOLE IN OTHER PLACE IF NEEDED.
IN THE PHOTOS ONE DO NOT SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCE BUT THE QUESTION WAS ASKED AND HERE IS THE ANSWER.
ON THE UPPER PART OF THE LEG A SMALL PLAT WITH A SLOT IS WELDED. ON THE WOODEN OLIVE PLAT TOP ON THE BOTTOM SIDE 3 GOOD WOOD SCREWS WITH A NICE HEAD ARE SCREWED IN TO A CERTAIN DEPTH ,THEN WHEN TUREN OVER THE WOODEN SCREWS HEAD IS GOING INTO THE SLOT AND THEN TURNING A BIT LIKE IN THE BAYONET SYSTEM ( like holding the lence in the camera ) THE TOP IS HOLDING THE WHOLE INSTLATION FRO FALLING APPART. NO NEED TO PUT A SCREW OR A PIN IN THE TENNON JOINT!!!
HOPE THINGS ARE CLEAR FOR NOW

  4. THE STEEL IS 1045. MOST OF MY CARVIUNG TOOLS ARE FORGED FROM.
QUENCHED IN WATER AND DROWOUT TWICE TO YELLOW TO GET BINITE WHICH MAKES IT VERY HARD AND TOUGH AND A VERY GOOD AND LASTING CUTTING ADGE.BECAUSE THE GRAINE OF THE 1045 STEEL IS VERY SMALL .SOME TIMES IF SOME ONE WANTS A MORE PROFESIONAL TOOLS I FORGE THEM FROM W1-W2 OR O1 AND D2 WHICE ARE MORE COMPLICAT TO FORGE AND QUENCH.
THE WOOD IN THIS CASE IS FROM ROOTS OF OAK TREE WHICH ARE VERY GOOD FOR MALET HITTING WHILE CARVING
THE GOUGE AND ALLTHE TOOLS ARE FORGED WITH AIR AND HAND HAMMER , BELT AND MINI HAND GRINDER
    NO PROCESS PHOTOS YET
ALL OF THE TOOLS THAT ARE IN THE THREAD ARE A BIT GOUGE WITH BIGGER RADUSE

  5. Fciron thank you for your explenation and suport
when Frank Turley said before asking me how I control and maintain the length of the point my my full answer was ''some knoledge in geometry and experience''
the squar steel is having 21.5 % more matirial then the round in the same dimention . means that if you round a piece of squar steel it will be longer 21.5 % 1/5 but while rounding the steel after forging squar it swels a bit there for practicaly we calculat 13-15 % longer in this operation.
In every rond steel a cone is hiding and in the squar steel a piramid is hiding .The proportion in both of them between the full matirial and the cone and the piramid is 1 to 3 that means that if one leavs a ''blob'' of 1''
and start the forging from the behind towerds the point or with the hammer tilted or put the blob on the far end of the anvil you will always get a 3'' point !!!
The beuty is that geometry is working in All diameters the same 1-3 many people thinks that if the steel is thicker you need a smaller blob to start with and this is wrong.
and why did I start with the proportion between the round and sqar ?
if you forge the point on a round steel there is 20 % less matirial and you forge squar piont you will get the point shorter but when you will forge to octagon and round you will get it to the right designed length.
If one is forging a point from squar steel then one will have to start the blob a bit sorter 15% to get to the intendent length
After having this geometry knoledge one needs some experience to master it.
the longest point I forged in one heat was 10'' IN 5/16 AND 3/8 with my trick system

Hope I made it clear enough

  6. Mr. Hofi,
I'd like to second Wayne's motion for a blue print, if I may. I really like them. I can't tell scale from the photos. What are the dimensions of your bulls?

    Thank you sir,
    ML

The problam is now that the BP are not in order .BUT I can make on with the PUCASA and put it in the forum the moment i''ll have the time for . Any how thank you for the interest

  7. Uri, did you get inspiration for these bulls from Fridolin Wolf's book ?

Sorry but I do not know of Fredolin wolf. those bulls are forged in Europe for centueries now and many blacksmith along the hitory of forging toke the chalenge of forging a bull

  8. you could make many different designs in a similar way i can see,

your drawing of the tool set is excellent very beautiful,

using flat bar as a spring seems like it would center the dies better than round bar.

THE drawings are of my granddaughter tha is working with me at the forge and maks all the drawings for my last and feutuer books
the smaler tools that I use round bar as a spring there is a guid that hold id from mooving sideways one can clearly see it in the photo
but thank you for the advice and compliment

  9. This stand was commissioned for a collector of ancient jars this jar is 3000 year old and its value is 10000$
THE idea of the design is to show the beauty and grace of the jar without interfering in the jar form ,to hold it from the bottom and let it ''fly'' upwards.
I also show here how I use big magnets to hold the parts together .
The use of the magnet is some thing that I use very often i many places that I have to put parts together when one works alone

I am working this year 4 days a week with my grandfather at the smithy but on top of forging I also work with hand and wheel ceramic (potery) and make ''ucarina'' type of flute, knit with wool, weave carpets, make all the drawings for my grandfather and many other painting, learn to sing jewish easteren liturgy easteren songs in Jerusalem and teaching perma-cultuer and natuer preservation. The dress in the photo Idid myself.
yes one needs a good per of good and strong hands for this job and lots of knowledg ,II wet and soak the dates palmefibers in water over night many times in hot water to go faster but it is harder to plat olive branches
