I took a closer look at the base today. It almost looks like there is a plate that is around the perimeter of the base approximately 1/8 in thick. I think that it is there to give the anvil a flat bottom to sit on. I can get some pix if anyone want's to see it. I did give the guy some honeycomb from my hives to sweeten up the deal for him. B)

I gave 70 for it I think it is worth it. B)

Any idea on the value of the anvil? I live in Central Alabama.

I picked up this little thing the other day. 270 lbs but there is no makers mark on it anywhere. Anyone have a good idea what it is based on pictures?

A good cleaning would probably reveal the trenton name. I looked on the net and saw several anvil's identical to that one and they were labeled trenton.

Kroil is awesome stuff! Go easy on pressurizing with grease or oil you would be surprised on how much pressure a grease gun can pump out. I would hate for you to blow your screw box apart.

American Wrought? Looks similar to the anvil I got daddy for Christmas. It had the same handling holes but the horn was not as long looking. Here is a link with pictures. I went by a local indoor flea market today to just look around. Well after looking for a while I saw this nice little post vise. It has 35 stamped on multiple pieces which I assume is the weight of the thing. The only other stamping is on the pivoting jaw on the left side below the screw hole it says Quikwerk. Anyone have any info on the age or maker? I paid 120 for it which was more than I wanted to for my first vise, but they are scarce as hens teeth around here. Most have been sent to the scrap yards :( Anyhow here it is after a good brushing, oiling and greasing.

Well I bought a 150lb Trenton at a scrap yard a few months ago and really like it. Last week I went back to the same scrap yard to see if they had a post vice but no luck. Anyhow I saw a anvil up on a shelf and looked it over it was forged that much I could tell. I did some scrubing with my finger and saw American Wrought. The edges looked a little beat up but the faceplate was flat and it sounded pretty good. Anyhow my dad has wanted a anvil for the past 10 years but has had no luck in finding one reasonably priced. So I asked my mom if a anvil would be a good gift for Christmas. She said yes. So today I went and picked it up. It weighs 100 lbs even. I had to pay 150 for it but it will likely outlast me and my dad. After doing some research this seems to be a fairly uncommon anvil. Anyone have any info on this anvil like what material is used and maybe the age?
