  2. Here is a picture of how to make a big batch of charcoal during our annualy hammer-in, in september here in Sweden near by my shop . We allso have the workshopp open this days so people can se us work in the shopp, and allso people can testing theire skills with the Beche 500Kg hammer. Kallsme

    10 Inches Tongs

    One of my latest tongs. Forged in two pieces an mounted with a 7/8 rivet. I grip over 150mm(10") scuere bar. The steel use for all tongs i made is SS-2225,( AISI 4130 ) Roger
  9. This is the hammer i started my jobb as a blacksmith 1978 in AB Bofors in Sweden. This hammer is a 800Kg(1750lb)steamhammer i worked with in nearly 15years, this was cut down to scrap this summer. When i beginn my work in Bofors 1978 there were 26 airhammer in the smithy from 40-4000kg(90-8800lb), now they only have six of them left. The smallest is a 600Kb Beche

  15. Yes you notice that right. The reson for that is, if you fit springs on the big swages you will not be able to lift the tool up on the dies because they been to heavy. This swages weigh nearly 30kilos each And another reason is, lets say , after ten hit with the hammer you hawe to lift the shaft and the swages to blow away slag (is that the right word ??) in the lower swages so the surface will be good. Roundbar swages is fitted with springs up to about 70mm. Roger

  18. Yes, tha was done in one heat, but you have to hurry a bit so the steel dont lose it
  19. The USA AISI standard for this steel is 4340. It is not a tool steel actually, but it has wery good abrade ( i hope thas the word)quallity, and it much sheaper than real tool steel. Kallsme
  20. Here is a series of pictures how to forge a big shaft to Volvo Powertrain transmissions from a 170mm rounbar, and a lengt och 160mm. The time it tok to forge the shaft is about 8-9minutes Any questions? Kallsme
  21. The head of the spike is about 100mm (four inches) and the height of the head, 15mm. The shaft directly under the head of the spike is 28mm square and 710mm (28 inches) long. Kallsme
  22. This anvil weigh allmost 10Kg, and it tok about 15 minutes to forge, and about 20 minutes to machine and grind. I use SS-2541 in this anvil and allmost in all my tools in the forge, exept in the hammer dies, but allmost eweryting else to use with the airhammer. Kallsme
