  1. Metalwebnews was where I got the idea of cutting from plate several years ago. As luck would have it I bid into a shapcutter job at work and was able to get the job done. Unfortunately, due to physical ailments, I've had to change jobs so it is a one of a kind ....sort of. Will post more later but thanks for advise- Dodge
  2. You are absolutely right, bbb. After all, that is what this forum is all about. My apologies to River-Gazer.
  3. Heaven has recieved another jewel. Ralph will deeply missed by us all -S. Scheer
  4. No. Its solid mild steel. Might hard face b4 its all said and done but I've done some banging on it and as long as I maintain good hammer control It is working good. Besides, if I leave it mild I can fix any dents or dings easily with my mig:)
  5. Not sure of its intened use but my tool makes a very nice dimple in 14ga sheet that has the apperance of a fake rivit head:)
  6. There is a little farming in my area (Nebraska), he he. The rounded "bit" would punch a nasty hole. I was guessing some sort of dimpleing. Bit appears to be replaceable. Yup, been brazed or welded in three places. Has had a hard life LOL. I plan to put it in my "Gallery of Wonderments!" :)
  7. Got or find a tool that you have no clue as to what it is?. I think we've done this b4 but might have lost it in the "crash". So, lets give it another whirl! I'll light this candle Landlord found this on a new property of his and gave it to me. We have no clue as to what it is or used for. Looks like a bolt cutter at first but evidently does some sort of dimpling or puching by the looks of the jaws.
  8. I generally subcribe to the KISS method as much as posible. Disclaimer: I'm not calling ANYONE stupid. It just an acronym:) KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid :)
  9. You got the right idea, Michael. If it works, do it! Keep looking tho. I am. And I hear they're out there :)
  10. Not done yet but this was cut from 4" plate. Horn was roughed with a O/A torch the finished with a 7" zircon flap disc. Feet cut separate and will be severely welded ;)
  11. Welcome Sparks. I hear ya on the beach!! Do ya surf? I yusta. Too old and not many waves in Nebraska LOL

  15. Steve, We use a tumbler at work for small parts that don't get drilled. ( tumbling can raise burs on corners that are hard to set level in vise. But machine is virtually like a cement mixer however VERY heavy duty. Walls of barrel are 1/2" thick! Hydraudlic motor drives it and yes, It is VERY noisy!!! :)

    Forging A2

Howdy, Not 100% positive but I think A2 is an air hardening tool steel. Also not sure of the carbon content.
