  5. I've used 1144 steel for tooling..........didn't have a thick enough piece to bother making a hammer though. Please clarify the sizes you have.
  6. My main shop work table is 5'x9' and 1/4" steel plate. Usually only half of the surface is available, but I do my drawings on it. I solved the problem of full scale drawings by not making anything larger than the available surface. Works for me, YMMV.
  7. because Frosty, size don't matter to them

  11. I drilled holes in 2x4 and 2x6 of the size necessary and have all my punches, hardy tools, etc in them holes. the 2x's are laying at the end of the main work table (which I gotta clear off yet again !!)
  12. how long you gonna be in Rota and where will you be afterwards? You get to the States and all kinds of supply possibilities open up.
  13. Thomas, too many always feels cold on the floor
  14. I buy handles from Tennessee Hickory Handles and made drifts to fit those handles. Never had good luck with trying to make handles from scratch. Hammer weights are particularly weird for anyone to figure out except by experience. I have hammers from a few ounces up to 20 lbs and various shapes. I use whatever is handy or fits the purpose. YMMV.
  15. well, that explains a lot in my shop....too many hammers to use all in one year. Not to mention all them other things taking up space.
  16. ..... she owns a bar ????? ..........oh ....wait, you did say "good friend" .......
  17. I've made hammers from rebar, usually 1.5" dia or better.......depends on how good you are at heat treating and the quality of the rebar
  18. Das, just come on back for a few days...we'll get ya right...
  19. I like the heat colors still on it.....nice work
