  1. Mr Dan is a great guy! So glad i got to meet him :) ill post pictures of what i got while i was there in a little bit!
  2. I know what david is talking about and have seen them used! They are very handy if your anvil has bad edges. Need to make one myself. Never have thought about different radiuses on the edges. Good idea! ill give it a whirl when i get around to making one.
  3. He deserves it! And i thank him for his service. Keep safe you two. :)
  4. http://www.iforgeiron.com/page/index.html/_/blueprints/100-series/bp0131-coal-coke-and-rocks-r364 this may be a little helpful.
  5. looking good but i would fill in those gaps and smooth it out. that affects your work
  6. I can back what glenn said. I myself have my forge under a huge overhang and have problems with the smoke gathering on calm days. i found that poking a hole in the top of the fire right above the place where your air comes in. Try to get an open flame to come out, the green smoke is flammable so it will mostly burn off if you have a flame next to it. But also be aware of the other gases the are produced when burning coal that you can't see. Best would be to get a evacuation system to remove everything. All in all, poking a hole in the top of the fire and letting a flame burn there will burn off a good bit of the yellowish green smoke, or at least for me :)
  7. Praying for everyone that was affected. Those poor children :(

I recommend welding flat bar around the firepot so you can actually set it down in the hole flush with the table. gravity will hold it there but if needed you can bolt it down.
  11. Yup. Its hard to find anvils down here. saw a guy trying to sell a 150 peter wright for 1000.... crazy. And many ASO's. BUT plenty of railroad tracks.
  12. I've gotten some rebar to harden. some stuff i picked up at home depot. There is different grades i believe and higher the grade, the more specific types of metal that are recycled to make it. Or you could just get lucky and have some higher carbon junk go through the recycling process. Ive made a few knives from the rebar that hardens. just for the heck of it. Nothing to sell or anything but just shop knives.
  13. Alright. Thanks. Pretty sure thats what i have here. Doesnt feet like cast iron. Has rebound.
  14. Look for local blacksmithing groups nearby and if there are any meetings in your time criteria try going to them. Good chance to talk to smiths and learn a lot.
  15. Hi guys! Ive had this anvil for a while and it works fine. I don't know much about it or what its made of and i would like to find out or at least get an idea. I don't know if its cast iron or cast steel but its definitely cast. Any Help would be amazing. Thanks guys! same on both sides
  16. Considering his starting point he may not go that low. Worth. A shot
  17. This is something that showed up on craigslist. IT's pretty over priced and i am aware of that. I was wondering with its condition, what do you think a decent price should be? 400? Anvil. About 200 pounds. $1,000 or best offer.
  18. Saw this too while i was looking for an anvil. I live in the area so i was excited till i saw the lot deal. Sad day :(
