  1. That was me. It was a fun class. Good luck with your tomahawk forging!
  2. Here is my first completed tomahawk. Forged the head out along with some other work in progress heads at Ryan Johnson's tomahawk class at JC Campbell. It was a lot of fun! Felt like I was taking an eating class with all the great good.
  3. 1906 50lb. Little Giant. Hammer is over 100 years old and out works me every time!!
  4. Tim Ryan of North Carolina lost some fingers and had some leg damage when an accident happened when shooting an anvil in MO.
  5. Sam, That's a nice looking grinder! Mike
  6. Look carefully at the Little Giant power hammer. Haven't seen a die set up like that on one before. Looks homemade to me. Good Luck! Some good items there.

  8. From the look of the feet, it dosen't have the shape of a Peter Wright anvil. As for weight, my guess given the dimensons, it looks like it would be in the 125-140 lb. range. Good looking anvil.
  9. Great Job!! It really looks good. I hope this knife helps to keep the owner safe. Thanks for showing it.
  10. Great post! Just shows you how it depends more on the smith than the tools.
  11. I like Frank's idea of the magnet. I usually just use the fishing method and get my arm wet! Works OK in the Summer, not to well in the Winter.
  12. I sure would hate to be the one trying to get it into the house without scratching the floor!!
  13. Really enjoyed the video. You did a good job. Keep up the good work!
  14. I have seen the Hofi video and he has a lot of good ideas. I, too, have problems with my hammer wrist. I think it is mostly from getting older!! Don't know how you hold your hammer, but have found a more relaxed grip helps me.
  15. Kyler, You could buy 20 Mule Team Borax at your local grocery store cheaper than you can get it on eBay. A whole box goes along way.
  16. I must have lucked up on my copy. Only paid $25 for a used copy at Amazon plus free shipping. Another good book that I recently obtained is The Art of Traditional Blacksmithing : A Norwegian Perspective By Havard Bergland. He has a chapter on forging hewing axes, drawknives and adzes along with other woodworking tools. Also, chapters on heating treating, etc. This a hardback book (school text book quality). Got it from Artisans Ideas for around $59 using my ABANA membership discount. Hope this helps.
  17. I would recommend a book to you by Ray Larson "Tool Making for Woodworkers". It covers pretty much what you are asking about and has a lot of good information on forging tools.
  18. A guy named Gill Fahrenwald used to put out post cards and a calendar with smithing pictures. Don't know if he still does. The e-mail address I have for him is anvilman@orcalink.com . Don't know if it is still current.
