  1. Sorry Spanky, All I did was make the different steps. Never attached or any anything. But , hey when you get yours done, I'll know how to do mine......Take Care Dave
  2. Hey Spanky....I made up a tutorial I'll call it. I think 7 steps. I had thought of standing them on end and just welding the base to a piece of flat stock. Maybe a little bulky , but a hole would let ya hang it or just leave it sitting flat on a table to be picked up and ogled over....... Take care Dave
  3. Hey nice work there Spanky, and thanks again......Farmall, I'm just using a hacksaw with a 32 TPI blade. It's got a narrower curf , and I set it in the saw at 90 deg. so I can keep an eye on it better. If it gets offline, I switch ends and pull on the saw to cut instead of pushing to cut. Thanks for the moral support.......Take care Dave
  4. After the going small thread , and having a little luck. I thought I might try to make something useful. I tried a few different ways to get an attachment point without much consistency. I didn't like the 1/16 " drilled holes and no luck with a 1/16 drift. ( I wonder how small a hole can be drifted? ) I settled on a simple scrolled end. I just left the normally cut leg on the Fredricks Cross on, and scrolled it over. I now have the luckiest wife in the world...(grin) Anyway ,I have made a few sets of them ,and have none in my inventory at this time. That's a good thing. Oh ,and by the way, 1/8 " keystock for the earrings and 3/16 " for the necklace. Sprayed with 3 layers of clear enamel . I would like to give a special thanks to Spankysmith for the inspiration, her kind words were just what I needed. Thanks Spanky.......Take Care Dave
  5. I just used a hatchet to break up the +/- 25# block of "slum gum" (the wax at the bottom of the hive, I think). Then ,melted it down in boiling water to let the junk bee parts and trash to settle out. I let it cool, broke it up , melted again and poured into an old muffin pan for a mold and more convenient size to use. I paid $25 for the block, from a beekeeper I met at a craft show. He told me nobody really wanted it. After the boiling clean up, my iron can't tell the difference. I finally made my first batch of BLT yesterday with it. Can't wait to try it also. Take Care Dave
  6. Thanks for the story notown.....got a good chuckle out of that....my ortho surgeon lives right next to my field out back.....Gotta see if he needs any tools.....he he ...dave

  9. Thanks Wayne, that makes a lot of sense. I'm using my initials , but as SmoothBore said ,I don't want my ego to take away from the piece. Thanks much guys............ Dave
  10. Just wondering how you determine where to put your touch mark. It seems to me, the better my work gets and the more proud I get of it, I like to mark it right up front in plain sight. Sometimes I still mark on the bottom or back, but it seems more and more, I put it up front. Does anyone have any rules of etiquette to help me out . Thanks Dave
  11. Where might I be able to find out some more details ? I should be somewhat close.........Dave
  12. Guess I'll throw my A&H 100# Ser. 32086 , into the thread. I paid $175 and RR track ASO for it. I think I did well....I know it is capable of better work than I am. Thanks fer lookin' Dave
  13. CrookedPath, How long do you hold it in place? Dave
  14. Well Daniel, I'm not going to make it this year.....If ya like unlimited yard sales and flea markets this is the place to go in Indiana...I took grandson deer hunting yesterday and shot one with my bow. So no chance to go today either. And the cutting begins....On a blacksmith note ; I gotta make myself a good knife for the next time this happens.........Dave
  15. Hey Gehljoe , do to weather we didn't make it yet, rain on Mon. and Tue. Maybe on Sat. Did you find anything ? Just wondering...Dave
  16. Madwing...glad you are putting those wheels to good use. I'm just sayin' , I bet there is more than one old carpenter or wheelwright that could put that wood back in there and repurpose those rims. Which is harder to come by, the wood or the rim ? Just another way to look at the picture......it's all good.......thanks for sharing Dave
  17. I'm going to get in trouble here, but I gotta say it....I'd just as soon you cut up an old anvil to get yer wrought iron and leave the old equipment intact......they're not making it any more either .... Dave, the guy that wants to learn to sharpen plow shares. :D
