  1. Sestrom, Here ya go...head west young man, head west........right on over to Oden, In. When you get to the middle of town ,turn south to Graber Farm Store. Pocahontas coal, bag or bulk. Hope this helps Dave
  2. Thank you very much , sir.........great stuff right there....... Dave
  3. I got a problem with that anvil.......Can't decide which I like better, the tractors or the anvil.........my problem....not yours Dave
  4. Thanks Ausfire, They do look at home there.....very nice. Yea, got a few green ones here too....Take Care Dave
  5. Good onya Mate, perhaps a pic of the tractors too....? In a way I think ,I'll mis those tractors being here in the States. Oh and of course the anvil also...... Take care Dave
  6. Glad to see some of you will make it to Tipton. I won't be able to make it this year, my antique tractor club show is this weekend in Hendricks Co. But several guys from my blacksmith group (RSMA) will be there. Enjoy......... Dave
  7. IBA conference at Tipton In. this weekend. Dave
  8. Copilot.......I don't know whether to thank you or curse you for all these great pics......It seems, I just keep scrolling up and down, up and down......Question, Is there such a thing as, "blacksmith porn" ? Thanks ( I think ) Dave

Just thinkin" I got an old auto jack stand I may repurpose.....it has adjustable teeth for height ....10 ton, I think,....great idea....Thanks a bunch Dave
  10. Beautiful work Chris, I must be using cheap files. My attempts look nothing like that......LOL If memory serves. when in the ACT, I almost had to chew the VB to get it down. Finally settled on Tooies (sp?) of some color.....great time, great people. Thanks for sharing......Dave
  11. LOL ..Lawman, Maybe you could incorporate a bottle opener in there somewhere....Best of luck.....I'm feeling the need to beat the "heck" out of some hot steel myself........ Dave
  12. Hey Lawman, not to shaggy there. You might do a search for "skull hook"and see if that gives you any ideas for the next one. These have been on my ta'do list if I can just find that dern roundtuit........Dave
  13. Well, as far as the finish goes, it last longer than most lipstick. Actually I'm not sure how long it will last. How long will 3 coats of enamel last in that application? I have had no reports back yet. I understand the wire wheel fear.....Be very very careful....I use a very fine wire on an old belt drive set up, that is pretty low RPM. Dave
  14. Thanks Frosty, I just wire wheel em' good and spray with clear coat. Quick and easy.........Dave
  15. These are pretty quick to make and the horse gals luv'em. Thanks Dave
  16. Hey Spanky, Rebar is free for me so....that's that. Also if you noticed step #4 the bar split on me, not to uncommon with rebar composition, as has been noted here several times. You just don't know what you'll get till you try. I did miss speak when I said I had a 3/8" pritchel, it's a 1/2" duhh. Frosty, thanks a bunch. That means a lot coming from you. The texturing hammer for these is just a 10 oz. cross peen from a flea market. I've made a bunch of these crosses(enough, that it now seems like work). I got the dimensions for the depth of cuts from this site somewhere. Now on to Google to look up "caltrops"...... Dave
  17. This is how I do mine. I start with 1/2" rebar then square to 3/8". I think the rest is self explanatory. My 100lb. A&H anvil has a 3/8" pritchel so squaring up is easy peasy . I made a texturing hammer with angle grinder and finish hot with BLT 1:1:1.... I haven't felt the need nor taken the time to permanently mount them yet. But that may come soon.....Thanks for lookin' Dave
  18. Hey Spanky, nice set up. Gotta ask tho. Do you trim to length between steps 3 & 4? Kinda looks that way to me.....Thanks ... Dave
  19. Hey Stuart, Thanks for the clarification.....LOL......I'm just a bit jealous, that's all.......Dave
  20. I'm not sure I would want an anvil that big, If I hade to stand on a concrete block to reach it.............Dave
  21. Pintail, I must admit, I kinda have an in on the battery thing. My son works at an auto salvage yard and if I take in a junk battery I exchange it for a used one. I keep a few extras to sell cheep, to friends. Thomas I agree 100%...now is the time, but I haven't found "that guy" yet. I didn't see him at SOFA last year either. Seems "artsy craftsy" is getting to be the norm nowdays. At least that's the way it seems. The group I've joined is a traditional group, so when I get into it a bit more maybe someone will stand out. But as I've stated, I have a ways to go to get to that point. Wish me luck.....Dave
  22. Pintail, no big tractors here, just antiques. 4 JD's ...36A, 38A, 51A and 51B. 2 Allis...35 WC (my grandfather bought new) and 39B I use for mowing. There's a 51 Massy 44, a 47 Co-Op E3, a 51 Farmall H and a Case 830D. They have all restored, some in church clothes . All are ready to work, parade or show. I've got a story for each one of course, but his is a blacksmithing site. I have several pull type plows, restored (14 I think). My goal is to one day be comfortable building up and sharpening plow shares. I am a member of 2 antique tractor clubs and now a 2 mo. old member of a local blacksmith group. Life is good..... Take Care Dave
  23. Hey thanks for the details Pintail. Sorry for the delayed reply. Been havin' a bit of trouble posting. Nice collection ya got goin' there. I've got a few old tractors around here too. But I gotta say, I still love those hit and mis engines. I haven't been bitten by one yet, but who knows......if the right deal comes along, maybe. Welcome aboard, this is a great site......Take care Dave
  24. pintail.......I read through yer post, and all I can recall is " old tractors".......care to elaborate? Dave
