  3. Seems a lot of guys are starting to flock to this thread........... Dave
  4. Guess I didn't see that coming , ewe sure pulled the wool over my eyes..... Dave
  5. Didn't ya just love those windy days? ........throw one fork full down the chute and two come back up..... Dave
  6. Dangit.....I hate when that happens. To slow on the submit button Dave
  7. Looks to me like the extra piece of wood is for vertical support and the wedge is just a height adjustment. This due to the leg not setting on a solid base. Also the foot peddle hinge is welded to the leg. If I ever run across another vice missing a screw and box............. Dave
  8. Just a note , I got my pamphlet in the mail yesterday. Looks like a lot is on the agenda. Hope to see some of you there. Thomas? I just missed the pic by seconds last time. Dave
  9. Hey thanks guys, This about the same thing I've been getting in my search results. I found a few u-tube vids also. I'll figure out something, I guess. Looks like my fullering technique is going to get a workout, or something. So what do ya think, 8 - 10" long? Start with 1/4" round stock? Don't make use spring stock or an old rattail file. I think mild will be just fine, don't you? As always, thanks a bunch....... Dave
  10. Well, guys and gals. Here I go again. I just found out the trade item for my Sept. blacksmith meeting is a "larding needle". I found a couple of post on it here, and have used Google. But geez , how to make one other than sharpen a small pipe and running a rod through for a plunger. As I stated before, my creative juice's are not to juicy......any thoughts.....thanks Dave
  11. OK, I feel better now...I was abit afraid it was honing oil and you were going to put a small stone in the empty hole in front of the latch. I would hate to see some kid start trying to improve that blade. Very nice work sir.... I go to T.H. occasionally. I retired from a union hall on Dixie Bee Road a couple of years ago. I'm actually closer to New Winchester if ya get in the neighborhood . Dave
  12. Well shoot, I've been waiting for 3 days for someone else to show their ignorance with no luck. So I guess I'll have to show mine. What pray tell is in the little bottle? OK, I'll go sit in the corner now..... Dave
  13. Around here, I have always tried to avoid putting the main entrance facing north. Always in the shade and those northeasters in the winter.....oh man....West is next to as bad as north for me. Any reason why you don't want the west door all the way to the south wall. that would get you close to cross ventilation. Also, walk in doors are pretty cheep. Hey, it's your shop and your money. Oh and one more thought. It won't cost any more to think about a lean-to in the future. Leave those rafter ends with access to tie onto....Just my thoughts. You did ask right? Dave
  14. whodoamb, just looked at yer profile.....Happy Birthday ! Nice hammer. enjoy Dave
  15. I'm sure there will be more than one smith working at Bridgeton.......enjoy... Dave
  16. Sounds like good trading material for the Covered Bridge Festival..........Dave
  17. Sweet... About an hour from me and about an hour to a good coal supply. Enjoy the ride......... Dave
  18. OK Hoosier.....There are a few of us here, what part of the state holds your shadow? If ya need somethin' holler....... Dave
  19. Hey Spanky... I thought you might try those 1/8 " ones. They sure are cute. Along with the needle nose, I picked up a small pair of scrolling pliers from the jewelry section at the hobby store. You'll have to do it all in the flame of a small propane torch. Keep a can of water handy to cool your pliers as you work. I have a pair of bi-focal safety glasses that really help these old eyes. Good luck Dave
  20. 320 lbs. for $150 =$ 1.47 a lb. I'm confused......... I'm thunkin' $ .47 a lb. even better deal... Dave
  21. senstrom, The last I picked up in April, I think was $12 for 50 lb.bag or $310 a ton for bulk. If I remember right. The size was a little large for my preference but, no biggie. You might want to call before you make the trip. 812-636-7880.....That's about all I got for ya.... Dave
