  1. I'd be using it to harden A-2 and O-1 tool steels in fairly small pieces. I plan on tempering in the oven. Each chisel is about 1/2"x1/2"x6". I would much rather build a forge design that is known to provide very even heating. Are there any specific plans your speaking of? A simple furnace with Reil style burner/burners would be a lot more convenient to make. Where could I find a design known to provide even heat? Thank you very much
  2. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and very new to blacksmithing, I've been researching treatment of tool steels and I'm starting my preliminary design for a forge. I found one design by a steel treatment book from 1936 that describes a forge called a "Semi Muffle forge." The design is a full brick bottom with a rounded top. Here's what the drawing looks like in the book. I've been told that my burners would have to be be blower burners to get the needed heat distribution that I'm going for. My goal is to create very even heat distribution for treatment of tool steels for woodworking edge tools. does anyone have any advice or experience on making this style of forge? I found a site that sells burners called zoellerforge.com. Is the opening on the side of the burner used to connect a blower? Thanks! Scott
