  8. Thanks Steve I did fumble on the way to quench and missed it. Try again today.
  9. I ground a blade today and put it my oven to austenitize 1525 F, 5160 double edge dagger. Electric fire brick oven ,(old wax burn out kiln.) When I opened the door almost immediately the tip cooled to black about a 1/4" back. It was ground pretty thin .030 or less. Anybody have this problem or think of a way to get the blade to quench fast enough. I'm sure I can't grind that thin for one thing. Mark
  10. Thanks for looking Rich. Mike, I got the 10" from KMG. As to optimum size ,I don't know, many people seem to use 8" I went with 10" for a little flatter grind, It may be easier to grind with an 8" because of the tighter arc, when you establish the dish in your blade it kinda clicks in when you press the blade to the wheel, this is speculation on my part, so hopefully those with more experience will chime in. I'd like to see your grinder, what size wheel are you using? I'm about a mile from Big R (140&62) bring mikehr over with you and try out the KMG. Mark
  11. I don't know if this is the place to post these pic's but I got all excited about doing a hollow grind. 10" wheel KMG 1/4"x11/4 mild steel marked 2 guide lines aprox. .050 I started out to do single edge grind but couldn't help trying the double edge, so I had no center line, made a push stick out of oak flooring piece, and followed the chat tutorial didn't concentrate on the plunge too much with everything going on with position etc. Off to burn up more stock. Thanks for looking

  17. I'm back on this drill size thing again. I guess it's more of a rant. Seems the system is illogical (refer to chart). I started using micrometer to measure my blades, (thousands of inch) thinking in decimal terms, but not metric  so trying to pick a drill a little oversize for a given dimension (pick one) still confused What would be easier: metric micrometer, metric stock, metric drills? Letter,#, fraction, metric drills:o Whats standard machine shop measurement system? I guess this is an old argument, I'm just becoming aware of it. OK I feel a little better, back to my chart. Drill Size Conversion Table
  18. Never seen one, nice find, I would imagine most of them would be missing most parts so value of yours is up there. Did the stand come with it?
