  1. Here ya go new link, maybe a mod can get it changed. http://www.duluthga.net/community/gateway_art_project.php
  2. 2200 lbs. of stainless, that will be a fair amount of work! 1/2" plate first up to be cut, forged and formed :D
  3. Finished up the bronze except for the patina, almost 7' tall. The rest of the sculpture consist of six 11 ga. stainless steel spires the largest is 12' tall.
  4. John, you have any steam hammers tucked away in that little shop? BTW the clutch is amazing! I want to know how you tested it though
  5. Killer Kustom, keep them coming! I like the texture and smooth surfaces together, organic and armor-ish.
  6. Just wax, this one will probably live inside.
  7. I appreciate all the comments, I think you nailed it Jerry. I have been ornamenting most of my career, sculpture is no different. I am trying to bring a bit of worth to public sculpture which I think has been lost in many pieces today. In the end I am trying to inspire and be inspired... Thanks again, Michael
  8. Thanks! To give you an idea of scale the base is the 2" x 10" I was forging in the steam hammer thread. A sculpture built from this model would be 9' tall and would also move, perhaps on a babbitt bearing. After Aileron I have been searching for a better scale to build my work, I think just over human scale will bring more intimacy and would better allow opportunity to explore surface deformation with the tools I have. Ouroboros was inspired by this model I had made of a figure, which seems to be in an embrace and a departure. This ambiguity of the direction of its flight really intrigues me, is Ouroboros looping in or looping out?
  9. Its interesting the level of vibration we live with, I don't even notice it anymore...
  10. Forged iron and bronze, one horizontal movement, 36"H x 34"W x 28"D. I built this for the Barker competition in hopes of winning a commission for the new visual art building at UAB.
  11. A place to sit a reflect is a great way for the memory not to be lost. I would have rather seen the leaves on the back instead the seat (nitpick). A very large piece for your modest shop, well done.
  12. Nice work Mac, your shop is sooo clean too :P
  13. Not sure what happen Ric, I did get the info though. I'm sure you will be pleased when you get it up and running Tim. Thanks
  14. Meeting this Saturday in Mountain Park, GA. The cooler weather is coming!
  15. Bronze work progress, forged the texture cold under the Bradley. Formed the reverse curve under the friction screw press with oak bucks. The biggest one is 12" x 80"
  16. Thanks Phil, I have found shingling tongs to be my choice more often the more I forge under these hammers. The range of width, the amount of grip and leverage is extremely beneficial. I havn't heard the term shingling before, is that a process of rolling the material?
  17. Forged some 10" today, well more like just a texture. With a good heat I think it would be possible to bring it all the way down  I have a few more I can practice on...
  18. Frank, less is more when forging these suckers, simplify your process as much as possible (notice the facets on mine). I use mild tooling for the eyes and they are not round, a slightly squash ball gives them a more sinister look. I cut the mouth past halfway, this opens it up enough to chisel the teeth after which I close up with the skull on end under the hammer. Keep up the good work!
  19. Thanks Matt, it will certainly look good beside the Nazel, I'm glad you are going ahead with a new foundation. Did you get the large key that holds the anvil into the frame?
  20. Nice job Frank, the more you make the easier to get the proportions right. Shoot for more forehead and deeper mouth, I have also found making up a tool to do both eyes at once helps. I recently purchased a 6' bar of 2" round bronze for a sculpture competition  I couldn't resist. This one is around #30, a 2-1/2 pounder.
  21. Hey Matt, Just curious of the measurements and weight of the sow if you get a chance. Thanks,
  22. Just went over my notes, the bottom of anvil is 12" below concrete floor and the frame is on 8-1/2" of wood. Add a cushion and you'll be over 20" of wood under the frame, may get a bit sketchy?
  23. Nice score! You have quite a nice collection you can stop anytime
