  1. Hey Steven, we met years ago when I bought a 50 lb LG out of your shop. I wouldn't hesitate to modify your dovetails to allow bigger keys. I run 3 hammers in my shop, 50, 100 and a 250 and have made all of my own dies. I just make them so they work for me and for what I am doing, I would even machine my sow block if it meant an easier system, its only metal and if it doesn't work you can always change it. If you fit the keys well enough the dovetail system can be as quick and more secure than a bolted die system, the guys who designed these hammers came up with dovetailed keys for a reason! Take care...
  2. I am just not sure of the working capacity of this OBI Punch Press, I cant find any literature about it. I want to make sure I don't jam it up and break it, I will just start out easy and do some testing. There wasn't a machine under the two step pulley when I got in the shop, though there are 2 Southbend lathes, 1 shaper, 1 mid size drill press and 1 pedestal grinder as well as a large, about 24"x120" lathe. I didn't get to spend much time rooting through the place, just enough time to get excited about it
  3. Thanks Joel, the information you're sharing is truly inspiring. I have shared some pictures of a mostly intact, abandoned and falling down line shaft shop that I am trying to save from being scrapped as well as a pic of my 2 hammers and a newly acquired punch press which I am still trying to find information about. The line shaft shop was powered by an electric motor that was powered by the towns generator. I am really hoping that I can make a deal on the contents of the shop and keep it out of the scrap yard. Really appreciating the information, Adam
  4. Thanks Joel, thats a big help. Those bearings and hangers look great. I have a ring roller that I'll use to fabricate pulleys. Thanks Adam
  5. Thanks Joel, that clutch makes sense, I will give it another shot with the engine club guys. I have thought about reaching out to you in the past but was waiting to get a bit more of an inventory of parts before I tried to come up with a plan on how it would all come together. I have found your posted information to be very beneficial. I have been thinking about fabricating my own pulleys, bearings and hangers, with such a shortage of supplies it may be the only way to get a line shaft set up. Thanks for the replies, Adam
  6. Hello Joel, I think I first saw your shop on your website a few years ago? It inspired me to build a line shaft shop of my own. I currently live on Vancouver Island in BC. It's really hard to find machinery and line shaft hardware where I live. Over the years I have been collecting hangers and pulleys where I can find them. I have purchased both my 50lb. Little giant and my 250lb. Meyer bros. hammers from making long treks into the states, they currently run on electric motors. I am thinking of adding a clutch to one of my Witte generators to power the line shaft. It would be nice to get my hands on one of the engines that the local engine club guys have but I think they would rather keep them on a trailer to show them off at the fair once a year. Its a great feeling to be able to find broken down or discarded equipment and repair it and make it work like it used to, it's sad to see machinery scrapped or put into museums. Keep up the good work. Adam
  7. Where in BC do you live Rob? I live on Vancouver Island, I bought both of my hammers from the states. Guards are a good idea on these hammers.
