  1. Thanks for your concern. I milled a groove in the rebar, inserted the blade and welded it with my mig welder at something like 140 amps. I've sunk the blade deeply in stuff like the top of a utility pole with little effort. I was planning on using it as a wall hanger as it would be a poor substitute for something like a 45-70. I had the idea of splitting the rebar and using it as scales (was after a different effect) and might for the second, which is now in progress. Don't know how it would be boring out the rebar on the lathe?
  2. Here's my first attempt at a Machete. Made out of a agricultural sweep with a rebar handle and a copper spade silver soldered to the blade.
  3. Saw this on you tube... guys making machetes out in the sticks.
  4. Thanks for the link. I now have joined another forum and am waiting to be activated before I can ask a simple question. I had hoped someone from the knife forum side of IFI , whose actually done this , would chime in. IFI is my favorite forum due to the vast amount of experienced and like minded people. I could use the control panel that came with the treadmill for my speed control but it has more bells and whistles than I need. I also have more simple motor controllers (that I know) that would be adaptable. They have bulky transformers. Then there's my pile of single speed AC motors. Fe-Wood.....I got your cross peen.....heh heh.
  5. Below is a picture of a treadmill motor controller I would like to use on a 72" belt grinder I am building. I need help figuring out where to hook up my Potentiometer. Thanks, Rick
  6. Where's the rest of it?
  7. 'sides o ring chains are kinda pricey and don't seem to wear out...
  8. This probably don't count but I used a head off a RR Spike this morning for a rebar rattler I made.
  9. If you are interested in mechanical things there is a free download of a book containing 1800 Mechanical Movements at the link below. http://www.scribd.com/doc/134757167/1800-Mechanical-Movements-Devices-and-Appliances
  10. Man, after reading all these posts I had to go down to the shop and hug my anvil...
  11. I've seen some IFI members on the Metal Artists Forum and was wondering if any of you could tell me how long does it take to get verified on the MAF site? Thanks, Rick
  12. Billy, I get some materials in Lubbock, at Combustion Service Co. Go to link below. http://www.combustionserviceco.com/lubbock-tx-refractory-products.htm Sorry I am so late replying to your post.
  13. Thanks, here's an update. Lathe cleaned up well. Compound cross slide was trashed.... adapted one from an Atlas. Got no drive carriage with the deal but that's ok. Planning on using an antique exercise motor coupled to a 4 speed transmission for power.
  14. This is number 3 and while I'd like to say they sell well, the truth is they actually trade better. No. 1 went for a pile of stainless welding rods and no.2 went for this PC I am using right now. Number 3 will be at the gallery, today. Thanks to all for the kind words. Rick
  15. A Edison crank generator from an old phone...
  16. Traded a restored post drill for this.
  17. No haven't had it running yet. Did dump a sack of Cowboy charcoal in it for sorting, tho. Here's my brake drum forge (what I actualy use ).
  18. They are plumbing quick connect couplings.
  19. Friend called this morning and said he'd set something aside for me at the salvage yard. When I got there I found this forge. In it was this strange "s" shaped tool. I can see how it would be used but not what specificaly for. Any ideas? Just for laughs, this post drill was found at the same metal yard, by my same friend, earlier this week. I gave him half a five gallon bucket of sharkbites I had been hoarding for thanks. He likes those.
  20. Jim, those scalloped discs are great for making hoes. Many old farmers around here swear by them.
