Ah I see you have one of those bench grinder/belt grinder attachments. How do you like it? I've been looking at those mighty hard here lately.

Don't mess with the lead. It's way to soft for a pommel. And what's worse its quite bad for you. Plus it melts at just over 600*F if memory serves. You might want to just do a simple wooden handle. With pins going through it. How think is that blade?

Woah slow down there medieval. These guys have a bottomless well of knowledge they openly share. Telling us many times, steps they wish they had taken when they first started. I like your drive, but you have to be willing to slow down and read and learn all you can about smithing as well as hitting hot metal. Good luck and keep practicing.

Well that's the important thing. Getting a better one each time. Now just make things with it to sell and buy an even better anvil, and 10$ is something to be proud of. Good find.

Here is my family heirloom. It's a 160lb (150 without the horn) Trenton anvil. It has been in the family before my grandfather was even born. My grandfather said the horn has been broken off as long as he can remember. The first pic is of it with the original hot cut hardie, and hand forged hammer made by my great grandfathers friend. The second pic is of it dress up. The top looked like an old gravel road when I got it. I cleaned the hammer also and made a new handle. It's a 3lb ball peen. I use her all the time. Amazing rebound. Super tough top. Must have been work hardened to crazy limits. I can just barely dent it with a full blow( by accident of course lol).

Very good point sir. I asked if she could send me a picture of the very top of the anvil face and horn. As well as the front foot. Still no reply. I doubt I'll get one. Thank you very much for the help.

Yeah you saw it too. I just didn't want to believe my eyes lol. It's a shame because she is 220lbs and for only 350$. It's body is definitely based off of a hay budden. I might still go look at her. Maybe the photo is just bad lol. Another red flag was I couldn't make out a weld line where the steel plate should be.

Hello I'm thinking about buying this anvil, but they can't make out the makers mark and the photos they have sent aren't much help. I'm scared that I see a cast line. If its cast I probably need to walk away. But it's in almost perfect condition. For a very fair price. What should I do!!? It looks similar to a hay budden, but it looks like a cast line is running up the middle. To my knowledge hay budden wasn't cast? Am I correct?

I always enjoy vine file work. I'm gonna try a tribal pattern on my fathers knife. Which reminds me I need to start working on that again now that I'm all better lol.

It's really quite pleasing to look at. I really like the twist of the handle and the scroll on the pommel. **** that's awesome. Keep challenging yourself. 12 hours is pretty impressive.

What kind of anvil is that? That's a sweet anvil. And good job on the tools my man. It's more important it works well than for it to look good.

My next anvil will absolutely be put on a tripod stand. I haven't heard of the oil and sand mixture to fill the legs. That's a fantastic idea. Do you gentlemen bolt your stands to the floor as well? Or are they moveable?

Not debate about something you know nothing of with smiths that will more than likely accomplish more in the craft than you and I could dream about! That cross section where the hand guard meets the blade looks very thin. Be careful you only hit water jugs. That might crack in that spot on something else.

Oh how wonderful the layered goodness looks. I really like the hand guard and pommel as well. The whole piece is gorgeous.

Wow! Beautifully done. I've always wanted to do a wire wrapped handle. I really need to have my dad teach me how to brase properly..... I meant braze lol.

Sadly I think the spear will probably break during your test. If it doesn't then I'd be very surprised. They weren't made for car door killing lol. Just be safe when doing that demo. It looks awesome btw. I really wasn't sure about the ring when I was reading about it, but it adds a perfect touch to the spear. Very nicely done.
