The couple of Frankish axes the found in Irland had wedges holding the haft on just like a normal hammer or axe no handle left
just what was in the eye so could have been tapered same as Storm crows haft .
that being said they had curved hafts to increase throwing power like this one i finnished .
used osage orange for haft all i had at the time grain is runing wrong way so i will have to change .later on .

Chris, I just can't help myself from commenting on all of your posts. Just simply beautiful, my man. Just simplistic, yet beautiful with the designs on the blade. I'm working on a few similar designs out of 7/8'inch square stock at the moment. Drew some inspiration from your historic looking pieces! Are these commissions or just for your personal collection?
Hi Benton glad i could help you get a bit of insparation quiet a honour thank you
i just forge them because i like to, thank you .

Awesome process pics! I must ask, where do you get your inspiration from? Clearly it's something of Norse origin, but what feeds that fire?
I know some people draw their inspiration from novels, movies, videogames, history, etc. Mine tends to be a combination of all. But I'm very interested in what inspiration helps you design and forge these beautiful axes!
Hi Benton probably most of what you said mate ,I have a lot of interests axes are one at moment ,
you have to have a interest or you woudnt get out of bed in the morning and it keeps me of the streets LOL
Did this pic i said i would do hope this helps a bit .

I understand. Keep up the beautiful work. I wasn't asking you to do a special project for the pics btw. just, if you get a moment every once in a while during the steps to finishing one or another, snap a pic here and there, so that when you get it finished we can see the progress from rough to finished. (I know, I'm being greedy, lol. But like many on here, I love pics and great work.)
