The buitiful blue found on early Colts were done in charcoal from memory .
Lot of spur makers use fire blueing .to colour .
These fittings i did in caustic and nitric around 270 f the salts boil a lot higher than water
dangerous stuff one splatter you have a real bad burn .wouldnt use in the smithy my self .
Most firearms were done with the caustic method not doubles tho you end up with 2 in the tank eats all the solder out .

I didn't ask when I first seen this cause if didn't want to look like a fool but I'm goin to ask it now. Is that Pontiac I see u dear the Indian head on your print out? If so is it the car or the Indian himself? I did some looking and I know Pontiac cars used an Indian head for a little while but I didn't see that one.
Hi M Cockaran yes mate the print out is a 1947 pontiac car hood emblem, pontiac was chief of the Ottawa
thanks for asking glad you like

well I'd phrase it a viking ship builders fantasy war ax; Very nicely executed!
In general it's hard to tell a regular "felling ax" from a "fighting axe" save that the fighting ones tend to be a bit lighter that the felling axes.-----Until you get to the Danish axes with the 6 foot handles or the ornately inlaid with silver axes that are a "fighting/display only axe"
In early medieval times the most common weapons were the axe and the spear as the axe was to hand as a household object and the spear takes little metal to make. They also take less training to use by massed levies. Swords and armour were owned and used by people higher in the social strata that could, say, afford a high end sports car and time to train with it.
Hi Thomas just a second life for a old worn out file mate ,thank you for your input and happy you like what i did
appreciate .

You guys keep showing me such beautiful blades are drawing me towards the dark side! Arghhhhhhh.
I don't know what to say other than gorgeous blade though I don't understand the utility of the hook above the blade or is it for hanging it on the wall?
Frosty The Lucky.
Hi Frosty just based on the dragon long boat theme , bieng a ship builders war axe sorry if you dont understand that.theme

Beautiful work Chris, I must be using cheap files. My attempts look nothing like that......LOL If memory serves. when in the ACT, I almost had to chew the VB to get it down. Finally settled on Tooies (sp?) of some color.....great time, great people. Thanks for sharing......Dave
Hi Dave Thank you my pleasure ,Glad you had a great time over here even after that stuff lol

Hi Shamus and LastRonin both not realy right close tho ,
Centre of heart has been textured with a punch i made on a piece of quarter rod useing a checkering file to
make the pattern on punch face then hardened so i could texture the heart ..
Making the steel look a bit used i wiped it over with a bit of hydrocloric and fuming nitric acid what stayed in the heart
patinaed it hope that explains it .

Chris, could you describe how you did the inlay for the heart? It looks really nice.
Hi Shamus just a simple wire inlay cut a channel with a v chisel then under cut both edges ,tap your wire in

To add to Frosty's comment. I think that rasp end communicates "this will lead to infection".
