  1. Biggest problem I see is that they do not have eye protection! and they are directly in the line of fire. I know they are having fun and it was fun for you but it could very easily turn nasty.

    I agree with ONR, BRAZE cast iron, my near 40yrs exp. and as far as I'm conserned all the cast iron "miricle" rods just make the sellers rich.
    Steve, if you are concerned with the 'bubble gum' weld and don't feel good with brazing you can strap it together...usually in the bottom of a fire pan the cast is burned and so dirty that it can be difficult to braze anyway.
    Sorry Josh, we kinda stole this... but I do like your rig!and the visegrips just add to the look. :P


  2. Ok, you made it for a competition last summer. The piece looks very cool, well done! You didn't mention how you did. How was the piece received?

    Thanks folks for all the kind words, really encouraging. As far as how it did in the compitition/show, the drawing winner picked an oil painting. The judges said they would love to see it 15ft tall. Well recieved by the public. Made one for our Daughter-n-law for her birthday.
