  1. A very neatly constructed project. The castor wheel in the third picture of your first posting, is where in the final product? I fail to see it and was wondering what its function is. All in all a fine job. Well done!

This is such a cool posting, clever yet simple. I too, like Ted, am a jig man at heart. Thanks for this. I am going to use it!
  3. Master Curmudgeon ......by his own admission.
  4. Feeble is a relative term. I don't think your effort feeble at all, I rather like it.
  5. Well done Curly, great score. A new anvil is like bringing a puppy home, exciting! Kevan
  6. Beautiful....very impressive. It would be nice to see some pictures of your shop. Regards, Kevan
  7. Bringing home an anvil is like bringing home a puppy. Its so exciting!
  8. A very kind thank you for all the comments. To the two Thomas's, you are both correct, I should give as much attention to any piece irrespective of who its for or not. Good work should be done for its own sake. After that gentle repudiation from ThomasP, I slinked back into my shop that very night, ground all the welds, straightened and trued the scrolls, even rewelded a couple of joins that looked a little "iffy" and then sandblasted the whole thing and sprayed it. I then presented it to my wife as a 35 year wedding anniversary gift, with a little note that made mention of the fact that the project had been completed with input from the members of IFI, which she knows is my favourite site. Frosty, your comments are always welcome. That little anvil (100#der), is sitting atop a 600#der which as soon as I am able to move and photograph it, I am going to ask ThomasP to try and identify it for me. It is a no namer but I'm sure he will, from its shape, be able to make a calculated guess as to its origin. Kevan
  9. Very neat plus I like the distrested look!
  10. The angle iron is embedded deeply into the concrete, the stump rests on the floor. Around the waist of the anvil is a steel ring with loops welded at each corner. From these loops 1/2 inch round bar is welded to the angle iron. Nothing has moved in 10 years. Not fro your travelling blacksmith. Regards.
  11. Nothing very special and as it is for myself and not a client it was slapped together. A few pictures of the process........frame 20mm round bar, seating 50 X 5mm flat. Total weight about 150#
  12. I too have followed this thread since its beginning and what a delight and enligtening piece it has proven to be. How different from anything else that this wonderful site has delivered and that I have enjoyed since 2007. Jake and Beth, your artistic proclivities are so apparent and it is this that sets the artist so firmly apart from the rest of people. The true artist is indeed that person which gives credence to the saying that: .....the labourer works with his hands, the artisan works with the hands and the mind and the artist works with the hands, the mind and the heart. To all those who have contributed to this thread I thank you for adding a touch of happy colour to my daily dose of IFI. Beth, if you read this I have tried sending you a private mail without success. My wife I are going to be near Gloucestershire in October.........I would deem a cuppa with you very special. (I will bring my own kettle) Regards, to all, Kevan
  13. Yes, that's a WOW....you must have big arms. Beautifully executed.
