  1. Art, Braze welding is a process of almost equal importance to the user of an oxy- acetylene welding outfit. It closely resembles fusion welding in several important respects. It is used to produce joints of excellent strength in steel, in cast iron, and in copper and some copper alloys. However, in braze welding, the filler metal always has a melting point well below the melting point of the base metal, and the base metal is never melted. Years ago, the process we now term ”braze welding” was commonly known as ”bronze-welding”. Ever since the process was renamed ”braze welding”, there has existed a degree of confusion between the terms ”brazing” and ”braze welding”. The American Welding Society definitions for ”brazing” and ”braze welding” both stipulate that the filler metal must have a melting point above 425C (800F). However, the definitions state that in brazing the filler metal is drawn into a tight-fitting joint by capillary attraction; in braze welding the filler metal is deposited in the joint by other than capillary attraction. We shall talk about the use of the flame in brazing operations in another chapter. Ret, Sgt. Robert D. Yates And Yes I am a Member of the AWS and also a Ret, Teacher from the **(APG) I know Very well what their Books State in them Art I use to Teach in Aberdeen Proving Grounds MD.**(APG) I am not going to argue as to what you accomplished with a torch and a rod or what you wish to call your technique Sir .
  2. Eseemann, As rule of thumb ,textbook,Military,School,or Trade it is Standard Teaching to say and I Quote: " Brazing is Brass and NOT in any way, shape, type, or form welding ...Bronze welding is in short the fusion of bronze." for Welding : Read the first post ! What is Welding? Welding is the fusion of two like or dissimilar metals despite filler metal necessary needed or Not ! '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> Ret, Sgt. Robert D. Yates I have to agree with Frosty 100%
  3. Russell, Think about your tank as a oil vat (your Choice of penetrating type of oil) place the parts in the tank and draw a Vacuum PSI down on the tank . However, Do Not let the liquid get into Gage System (a very good shut off valve or two is best . this will PULL the penetrating oil into the parts . while many do pressurize Wood Vats releasing the vacuum and then adding clean air to the system it is not OX ( OIL & OX are a combustible combination under Pressure ) I would Recommend Just the Vacuum System for what you are doing . 4. As do I Brother Frosty and the Ol Jet Engines as well and that is what got me to playing with this burner style .
  5. I will Have Photos / Drawings up very soon and my notes as to how things work it has been a very long year and a half of work on this project so hang in there with me folks and join in the conversation and add your thought as to what you think the out come will be Pass or fail trump or tribulation ? I will share my work with the Community so everyone can see just has worked and just what did Not ! I have a few others that are in testing though the one that I am principally working with is the 12 1/2 in is Yes LPG and OX with a SS turbine in it . It currently runs very well at Idle between 1 to 3 psi and Forges Heats at 3 to 5 psi on a block 4 X 4 1 X 1/2 in 90 seconds in three different tests So far. The thermodynamics of the Burner and the preliminary results are very promising. and showing Extremely Awesome Results. I am at about $19.50 US for a month to run the forge, That is 8 hours a day for 30 days.$19.50 is for about 20 LB of Propane for 100 LB of propane it is about $75.00 Ret, Sgt. Robert D Yates
  6. Thank you Ivan I'll keep you posted and get some notes posted very soon .
  7. YES ! You read it Correctly I am Tinkering with a Mini Jet Turbine Blower style Propane / Gases Burner for a Forge . It is Not a new concept However just a Much Much smaller design with a few Electronic solenoids to control the flow of Fuel and Oxygen for Maximum Volume yet low pressure with high Heat out put. I have almost got the drawings done and a prototype done for testing . What say ye as to its abilities and feasibility. Instead of 90 Min/seconds of heat up time I am hoping for instant thermal heat such as a "Thermal Rocket Engine" is Fired . Ret, Sgt. Robert D Yates 13 & On Forge
  8. You would be correct Brother Dodge . as Did when I welded a ton back in the day I have owned only three Welding Jackets due to taking care of them so well .
  9. Step # 1 ) WASH IT ! with Just any plain wash soap for your washing machine. Step # 2 ) RINSE IT ! with some Snuggle, YES ! I said SNUGGLE Fabric Softener. Step # 3 ) DRY IT ! (LIGHT or NO HEAT) and ADD SOFTENER SHEETS (about 5... Five) to the Dryer with your Leather Item . when it comes out it will be Very Supple,Soft and Ready to use . I have done this for Many years with my Welding Jackets and Aprons and such . should you have a Grease issue Soak the area down with "AWESOME" (Look it UP) it works Very well and will not harm your Washing machine ! NOTE: However Clean Off ALL the Metal Fragments that you can . Happy Living with Leather . Ret, Sgt Robert D. Yates 13 & On Forge
  10. Very Sweet Mokumegane Ingot you have made there Daniel . Well Done Brother !
  11. I love the size and Height of it . If I can find the thread I may attempt to build one to a sit down style for the New shop .
  12. Where Did you Acquire that LIL Black Power Hammer Sir ?
  13. WH , I have I Huge 5X4 Elk well over 2 1/2" to 3" in That I have been looking for an Awesome Blade to cut it up for there are many nice straight tines on it that would complement that blade . As well as a short Sword I am working on in PW I Hope to get posted up in the fall as a WIP . let me Know if you are interested in a section of them . R Yates
  14. Prayers sent above to his family , may comfort and guidance help you through your time of pain and sorrow s
  15. Prayers sent from 13 & On Forge and Family to yours Clay .
  16. I have been using led lighting for quite sometime in flood, spot and overhead lighting All in White Lighting for the past 4 + years . I made my overhead lights out of strip LED lights , 1x1 strips of wood ,Thinsulate Insulation Board, and Aluminum (HAVC) Tape To reflect the light better and brighter . ( they are very light weight to hang ) LED's do not give off any heat and cost very little to run as to any standard bulbs or other lighting types . they are just Now catching on the main stream consumer industry. Best Regards
  17. E'llo Broom, You are just up the Road from me bout two hours . Welcome to come by if you are in my area just give me a shout ahead of time .
  18. Thank you Dan, Motion Industries here Locally had both of them .
  19. Here Is the "KMG Clone" I built Sometime ago almost 1 year not quite I beefed it up some in places and added things to suit my needs and requirements it is All Hand Built Machined parts to fit like a painted body glove. The tracking is mill perfection, and the arm bar has a lock so when it is in the down possession it has No tension on the belt & is held with a spring loaded press lock with a lil press down it releases. The arm handle also has a 3/4 Machined block behind it that has a partner the custom wrench that goes with it that is Two foot long Yes ! (2 Ft) long so I can easily pull down on the spring loaded tension arm to lock it into place to instal the belt . The metal has been very lightly sandblasted to a matte finish then given a Epoxy Clear finish on All surfaces , all bolts are Countersunk and are High machine grade quality bolts & screws that have been lock tighted or drilled and wired for safety to prevent backing out . The Variable Speed Controller is mounted in a box that has been ported / vented / exhaust and has intake filters that can be cleaned & replaced easily when needed. Here is the Link the Photos are Large Double Clicking and you can see the detail in the work that has went into this Machine I have Built . There are a Total of (5) Five Photos Here ! http://imgur.com/BSMnVIc,Untvt0L,9Bv4Inb,e9gBa9M,TRNNnj2#0 Best Regards & Enjoy Ret, Sgt. Robert D. Yates 13 & On Forge, TN

  22. AMAN ! done it a Many time in combat ! it will lift a 5 ton & 10 ton truck off the ground out of the sand in Iraq and seat the bead in one "BLAST/ BOOM" with a half a bucket of GP 40 grease applied to the bead . while it is "NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL" for common folks to do sometimes to save your "6" when folks are shooting at you you do what you need to do to get out of Dodge and it works ! the Truck air system will kick in and inflate the tire and you can drive on to safety . Been there done this and Yes even have the "T-Shirt" <Grinning like a Possum "
