anyone know the historical/technical reason for the collar-knob on the bottom of the post? I'm assuming that it's supposed to be sunk into a piece of wood or metal but don't really see anyone bothering.....

what kind of anti-seize did you use?

Have you started the process for the bearing? I'm really interested in seeing how that works out. Also, how are you treating the steel and wings for outdoor life? Looks awesome!
