    General

  2. From the album: General

When you can't aford to keep the lights on after 9pm, maybe you shouldn't be wasting your resources on developing nukes. Notice South Korea in comparison to North Korea.

    Making Char Cloth

    From the album: General

This is just a quick photo of making some char cloth. Char cloth is used when using flint and tinder to start a fire. Char cloth is just cotton or linen with impurities burned off just like charcoal or coke. The cloth is loaded into a metal container with a few very small holes poked in it. I put the container on the dying fire. This picture shows the smoke billowing out of the tiny holes.
  4. From the album: Work In Progress

This is a completed part that will be used to hold the strike control arm. This arm goes from the time keeping side of the clock to the bell striking side of the clock to trigger the ringing of the bell. The part is about 5" long. The tab at the top is to attach it to the frame.

    Strike Control Arm

From the album: Work In Progress

Just a quick photo. This part holds a rod that connects the time keeping side of the clock to the bell ringing side of the clock. In the corner of the frame, you can see the pips used to reassemble the frame.

    Clock frame

From the album: Work In Progress

This is the frame for the medieval clock I am working on. The frame is not actually firmly together yet. The tenons on the corners will be peined over to secure the frame. I need to do a bit more work to the frame before I secure it togehter.

    finial test final

From the album: Work In Progress

This is the four corner posts of the clock I am working on showing the attached finials. The decorative pattern is taken from the original medieval clock and was chiseld and filed. The mortises were punched and drifted.

    finial test - pt 5

From the album: Work In Progress

Here is a completed finial. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the step of punching a socket into the underside of the finial. The bar was upset on the end, put into the finial then the edges of the finial bent over the upset to hold them in place.

The pyramid shape was hammered into hot tool steel to create a die.

    finial test - pt 3

From the album: Work In Progress

Half of the stock has been cut off. Giving a somewhat pyramid shape. This was later cleaned up with a half round file.

This shows the finial fullered down about halfway.
  13. From the album: Work In Progress

This is a prototype I did to check I liked the look of the fluer. This particular photo is prior to hammer and file cleanup work. This sconce will have candle holder and cup.
