This piece of the clock is called the verge and foliot. It is the medieval version of the pendulum. The two pieces were brazed together with copper. -

After some cutting, about 10 teeth ready to have waste popped out. -

Using a very narrow chisel, I gently heat the gear and use the chisel to pop out the waste. The chisel is flat on one side to make bottom of gap smoother and easier to file. -

Using a hacksaw, the sides of the teeth are cut. I used a divider to layout the position of each tooth and a template to draw the cut lines. -

Gear actually in clock frame. I still need to straighten the gear up on the arbor and to grind outside edge to perfect circle. After that, comes gear teeth cutting... -

This shows the first gear basic parts mounted on the clock. The gear is two parts, the outer wheel is one part while the hub and spokes are another piece. I had made some mistakes but wanted to try putting the two together to get some practice. Things went great but I need to redo the hub and spokes. That should not take too long.
