  1. Frosty - yes he has a great photo ...looks like a wild man of the forest! Also my choice is mashed spuds and peas. Ausfire - Im not understanding...... were you offended by my post in some way? Macca ...yes lamb shanks YUMMMMM we used to give them to the dogs as they were considered a very poor cut of meet. Nowadays we (Australia) export them to England where they have an enormous following as an English pub meal for tourists with mash and peas! My daughter (chef) cooks them for 4-5 hours with root vegetables and garlic and a couple of cans of tomato VERY NICE
  2. No Im always on the scrounge for stuff and I don't mind paying $ 3-12 dollars for an old tool at a market stall if it will enhance the work , even doing this method the total cost of scrap for a big project comes in under $ 500 which is a fraction of what the work sells for on a big job.
  3. Thank you Last Ronin and Little Milligan. Frosty That was the whole idea (to eat them ) BUT She who must be obeyed fell in love with the poo factories they are and didn't want to eat them. SO my solution was to swap my lambs (when older) with a friend who also had bottle lambs then we were not eating our beloved pets but someone elses Ha! I got this idea from reading a book about the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya in the 50s where the white farmers that treated their workers (slaves) very well were not murdered by their servants but rather their servants murdered the neighbours whites and this was reciprocated by their workers . very civilised I thought.!
  4. Last Ronin. the price I am getting is $450 . I have no idea about freight as I have not shipped out of Australia. Frosty we have bottle fed orphan lambs on my farm an expensive indulgence but good for the grandkids Spanky Keep collecting you will eventually have all you need for your own masterpiece Stan I know it looks like a chain block but its actually 3 links of a chain , some strap sandwhiched between 2 x 2.5 LB weight lifting barbell weights. cheers all
  5. Thanks everyone for those compliments . Yes it seems that something simple sometimes succeeds . Ive had 3 orders for these all ready! quite un prepared for that. cheers andrew
  6. here's a lamb I built on the weekend. a bit of fun . I think I captured the stupid look sheep give us!
  7. Well Ausfire as I choose to have a rusty patina (no shiny metal) I use the penetrol to give a darker and with time a matt finish . I explain to the buyer that in non coastal area the artwork will last 100 years. I don't mind it revertying back to the rust colour but if they choose they can do a 2 yearly maintenance by applying another coat . I have found that after a few years they too are happy with just rust!
  8. Thank you Ausfire for that info on the car jacks. I don't deliver it to the buyers until November when the Katamatite community is having a sculpture festival. I ve dragged it out of the shed to paint with penetrol and get a bit of weather on it to reduce the shine . I will put some pics up today or tomorrow. cheers mate!
  9. Thank you AUSFIRE I didn't know they were holden jacks they seem quite old . Which model used these? With regard the scrap pile I now have a problem that my pile of "good bits" is now 4 layers thick and I cant find any thing. I will have to spread it out over a lot bigger area and see if that works. I just retired from a Shire Council job that's how I was able to get the worn out mower blades . I think I have enough to build a squadron of Wedge tails! cheers mate
  10. Thank you Bobby and Frosty , I hope people get a laugh as they enjoy this piece!
  11. Here are the twins. Their names are: "Evil - Rotten " and "Mean n Nasty. 2 Wedgetail Eagle chicks waiting for Wabbit Dinner in the nest below the returning mother.
  12. Thank you Dogsoldat . I got that impression just looking at a comparison of their claws!
  13. Thank you Dogsoldat . those great horned owls are a ferocious looking thing ! I just googled a comparison foto of talons and the owls are bigger than some eagles! could cause serious some s damage. What do they prey apon? dogs? small deer?
  14. Thank you everyone for the encouraging words . The rabbit was a lot of fun . I am working on the rotating base next. am going to use part of a small jack operated crane as the rotary part as the eagle will be about 12 foot off the ground so may be subject to wind gusts. so I am opting for strength over smooth rotation Jacques. you wanted to see my junk (treasure & uncut diamonds ) pile . these are old photos both piles have tripled in size.. BUT the hard bit is being able to go straight to the part you need without wasting too much time
  15. Here is a new Australian Wedge Tail Eagle with a rabbit as prey to feed her young! ( not yet made ) Not finished yet lots more work to do
  16. THANK YOU IRON WOLF........... I am glad you enjoy this stuff . here is the start of another eagle I am building
  17. THANK YOU IRON WOLF........... I am glad you enjoy this stuff . here is the start of another eagle I am building
  18. Hi Frosty, with my commissions I offer a buyer refusal at no detriment. This is because I have not (yet) had an unhappy customer, So.... its in my interest to know what the buyer wants before I start . So..................... (apart from physical stance preferences I ask the buyer: . 1. What is the subject (sculpture )thinking? , what are its emotions? What do you want your viewing public to experience when they look at the artwork? If a buyer cant answer these questions then they don't know wot they want...... so we part company. On the other hand sculptures I make for myself are the product of wild dreams , manic madness , drunken meditation , depressed delusions, extreme planning and bored whimsy .
  19. Thank you everyone for looking at my art. Frozen Forge... I estimate about 4 months full time work ( this is only an estimate as much more time is spent daydreaming at my other job and also many years collecting the artefacts) Seldom............ Thanks Dick for the continued encouragement. Frost and Yves ,. The Inspiration for this came from the buyer . His brief stated : 1950 Migrant ,. Sicilian male 35 -40 years old, slim , scarred , "just off the boat" , serene , a dreamer , a visionary , non threatening.......classic cut Italian suit ...... curly .hair shoulder length......... with left foot on a rock ..24...inches high . All I did was join the dots. The buyer was the visionary not me ..........he even supplied and installed the rock (shaped like Sicily!)
  20. well I finally installed this piece and the owner is happy!
  21. Tricks of trade # 2 Hi. Josh , Yes I cheat ! On the internet if you look up Golden mean or golden ratio or Fibonacci sequence you will find the perfect proportions for human face and body ( Brad Pitt and Angelina are mathematically identical and 'built' according to the ratio of 1: 1.62 (look it up you will understand) ............... SO on my beer fridge I have a life size, front on, and profile facial image drawn according to the 'Divine Ratio' in chinagraph pencil . it gives me all angles, sizes and relative positions . If im building a man I just deviate slightly from the plan ( eg broken, bent nose?). The natural diversity of materials used will ensure no 2 faces are the same .
