  7. I got started with a hunk of RR iron a hammer and a will to learn. Before I laid the first steel in the forge I read anything and everything I could get my hands on. I picked the brains of those who had been in the craft for years. Then I did the same dull boring exercises over and over until I could do what I thought to be a decent job. Then on to the next set of exercises. Basics will carry you through !!! Pipe dreams will just let you down. Finnr
  8. Yep GVR 4579 I was asking you. I know lots of the folks who formerly worked Shakopee so was wondering if you might be one. I should throw in a " Howdy Neighbor " about here too. I'm over in Wisconsin in the Eau Claire area. and get uparound the Twin Cities fairly often. Finnr

  14. You can get 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry isle of most groceries. I use it and it works just fine. With charcoal make sure you have a real deep fire so that excess oxygen is burned off before it reaches your stock. Tap lightly. Don't whang on the metal or you will drive off the molten metal along with your scale and flux. The metal available at Farm Fleet can be a bit fussy for getting a decent weld. If you have a metal dealer or welding shop near by I would say that either would be a better and cheaper place to get stock. Finnr
