Mine is the "Bordertown Forge" because the town of Momence, IL has been known as such since it was founded in the early 1800's. Indiana is on it's eastern border and used to be the edge of a grand swamp called Beaver Lake, drained and cleared of it's clutches of oaks and walnut to be used for farmland.

I "forge weld" often using my torch. I have a Harris set-up. I've watched others try to do light work without paying attention to the pressure settings and not do too good. I use a #3 tip and set both gauges at 3-5 lbs. and do just about any small stuff I want.I don't use flux. When I was working at the stamping plant it was common practice to fuse small splits in the mounting flanges on panels to stop them. An oversize flame would take a big bite outta what ever it hit. Like anything else, it takes practice to know how to set the flame and apply it.

When we moved from town to the farm (40 years ago :? ) there was a 3 gallon bucket of Havolin (sp) axle grease half full sitting in the corner. I'm still using outa that for other stuff too but it's all I use for my drifts and punches. Boat trailers and vehicles get their own grease!
