  1. ok... do these hoods with a reasonable chimney stack work alright anyone using these? good or bad experience?
  2. does anyone have experience on how well the hoods that centaur forge sells work? do they draw ok? thanks rb
  3. i spoke with a technical person at tjernlund fans. they go back to the era of coal heat and still have a vent that they use for solid fuel (wood) that he recommended. it is a radial bladed fan with the motor out of the airstream and is installed by cutting a section out of the piping. also found a fan at rockford chimney supply website for use with solid fuel. i dont remember what the btu heat output is for coal but i suspect these fans are (particularly the tjernlund) are robust enough for the high temps. i will try to get a look-see at ron reils site to check his solution.
  4. has anyone have information about using a hi temp vent fan (simlar to a power venter for a furnace) to keep a chimney drawing when the chimney needs to be short? maybe 2-3 feet above the roof but at the lowest edge of the roof. what temperature air is going thru a flue? the fire is obviously very hot but the air going up the chimney is mixing with alot of ambient room air. am i howling at the moon with this line of thinking? thanks
  5. I forgot... what might you want for the big 426#PW?
  6. Thanks BigJohn, i am looking for 150-200lb HB or PW, but if i can make a good deal on a 125 HB or PW, i may be interested. i still need lots of stuff. i have at present a leg vise and a blower that i found locally. the blower needs to be opened up and cleaned out and get some fresh lube. all the local anvils i have seen thus far dont seem to have a flat spot on them. obvious needs are tongs, hammers, and a forge/firepot. central arkansas doesnt seem to be a hot spot for blacksmithing, but that is why i am posting here...
  7. would do you have to offer? i am looking for something in the 150 to 200 lb range, but might go smaller or larger....
  8. i can probably take a day off to go but want to know if the best tailgate sales occur early.. or will saturday be the best tailgate day?
  9. i live close enough to the abana conference in memphis and wondered... will there be vendors selling anvils and such there? i would much rather buy an anvil that i can see and touch.. thanks
  10. about the possibility of welded repair.. do you think a new face plate has be added at some point? or something else entirely? bottom line. would you pass on this one? thanks
  11. no chance to do a tap test.. but anvil is not american. peter wright early 1900's (based on "solid wrought" written in circle and "england") other than that little crack, it appears to be in very good condition. flat, good edges thanks for the input. rb
  12. I am looking at this anvil to purchase. in the latest set of photos from the owner i noted an apparent delamination. to the experienced eyes out there... how bad is this? very new to forums hope photo shows up... DSC07545 (2).bmp
