  6. Thanks Brian, I hope you can get Alec's picture on this post, it would explain the point your getting at.
  7. hey Brian, Thanks for bringing this up, i have never gave much thought about the joint it self thinning and becoming weak after the weld, though i noticed it, I also never gave consideration on what the implications were on understanding it as a new smith learning to weld. looking back i can see how this confused some of the reasons for scarfing and upsetting. it took me a good long time to get why you upset and scarf. because on the first fire poker i tried, i just folded and welded it up ;0)
  8. all i could find is this '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>
  9. great work Chris! could you give us an idea how you did the runes and the design?
  10. this reminds me when i was in the SCA 20 years ago... had no skill and little resources. i didn't do much with mail but a lot with leather and plate. what i started with was a dishing stump and a ball peen hammer. then graduated to a piece of I beam for riveting on. good luck in your endeavor and stay sensible/safe! have fun!
  11. here's another dragon i am working on, need to clean it up and add the wings, my older sons gonna be happy :)

  18. Hey guys, I just made my first scroll starter hardy. think it came out ok. it's made from jackhammer bit. in the background you can see a hammer eye drift i did from the same piece. pretty happy with both of em !
  19. from what i have heard, (not a lawyer) it is not illegal to deface/ use coins in art, so long as you don't try to misrepresent the value. in other words, don't make a nickel look like a quarter, or what ever. and if you are melting em down or forging who's gonna know anyway? Excited about your project! hope you post some pics when your done and Congrats!
  20. Im interested in the plans! or the kit if i have the money. Best of luck and Kudos for sticking with it.
