  1. I am not sure where my head was when I bent the big part of the hook. I looked down and said ..... this won't work when fishing..
  2. Here is my first hook, and I think I had a little to much heat. This is just my 6th fire with the forge. I have some better metal to work with now so that might help some. I need all the input I can get.
  3. Here is my HB on it's stand, I am very new to forging and so far this set up has worked for me.
  4. I did cut out an area on the back side for long stock.
  5. I did have the sparks, and now I am going to turn off my blower from time to time, the blower has a High and Low I keep it on low, but it still moves a lot of air.
  6. I let this get out of hand today. I think I had it in the fire to long ? It is part of a rake. And some of this is from a RR spike that was pitted real bad. The Brake Rotor forge works I just need to spend more time with it.
  7. I got the anvil stand done to day. I think it turned out nice. It's 26" tall x 12', and it still has a nice rebound with the sand, ( I was not sure how that would work out ) There is no rocking at all, and I can move it around with the D-rings. The plan is to put it in the shop and leave it there, my forge is on wheels so I can move it as needed.
  8. I like your set up. I am getting things ready to make my next forge with a flat top. I forge I just built with the brake rotor is working fine but I like a flat area.
  9. Mobile works..... for me wheels are on a few of my large shop tools.
  10. Ok thanks, I will save them. I have a lot metal I can heat up and get some anvil time with. I have a FB page Skunkworks Fabrication, it is horse shoe items I make.
  11. Fired her up this morning and made the rod to go on my flapper, when I was done I had some coal clunks left. The coal I have is small ( 1/2" ) or so. Can I keep the large clunks and reuse them ?.. I was not going to weld a rod on to the flapper, I needed to make one and punch in the hole. It worked...
  12. Ok,, I will fix that tonight thanks..I will p/u 100lbs. of coal Thur. and have fire soon after..
  13. I think it turned out good. All I need now is fire...
  14. Well I went out to get the flange and tee and some nipples today. But no flange..... it should be in Tuesday. I did strip down a grill to use for the table for the forge it has a 1'2" lip I cam lay a steel top on (19 1/2 " x 25 3/8 " ) and I don't have any steel that I can cut down to fit. But I do have a a piece of alum. I can down to fit. Here is my ? should I use the alum. or will it get to hot with the forge on it.I would like to use the old grill stand. That way I can move the forge around. I am using things that I have laying around..
  15. Yep... I just need to get the rest of the parts, and cut out the bottom for the flange and tuyere area. In the pict. that grate came off a side burner on a grill the fit was """perfect"" to make a cook top for my wife.. I am going to take one bolt out at a time and cut the head off and weld it in place. After I get all four done I should have a flat area in the pot.
  16. It's been slow getting started. My back has had me down for just about a week, but I did get a few hours in the shop today. The last two pict. are my wife's new cook top. It was a perfect fit.I hope to get it fabbed up this week, if I can keep moving.
  17. So far these have worked for all most 20 years.. And a drill press..
  18. Nice work, I am new here and I am at awe at the way you guys fab up things. I am still trying to think of a nice stand for my HB anvil. 4x4's of a stump. I have a stump but so far said stump is not working out as I Hoped...
  19. I have a very long way to go... I am still trying not to brake a spike in my press. My first one did not pop... but the last three did. I don't have a forge yet. I am working on it..
  20. I Well round one, stand 10 me 0... nice and flat on one side, not so much on the other..I need to step back and think...
  21. Ok, I will keep using them for stands. I have three just sitting, and I see that is a good place for them..
  22. I have a few of these large brake drums, I was thinking ( or should I stop thinking ) of using one to make my first forge. Yes no or XXXX NO.. I hope to make something like the last pict. but not on blocks. I will fab up a stand. Please read IFI's rules about language
