  1. I finally got the last 2 bags of refractory I need this week so about 120 bucks in all for 3 bags....I have a buddy who is going to let me use his shop to cast it since I need someplace with a stable temp for it to dry and cure properly. I will post some pics of it being done.....

  4. I remember a while back someone mentioned having a jig or something on his LG to be able to quickly change out smaller die rather than the large ones we normally use, does anyone have the name for it or a set of plans for that jig setup? Trying to avoid having to spend alot on the regular sized die blanks and having to cut them to shape myself...

  6. Actually that is what I am attempting to do is add the blade to the split end, if it doesnt work out this time I will probably either drill and use a couple specialized nuts or rivet it....havent decided yet really....thank you though for the advice guys....
  7. I figured as easy as it was to forgeweld some A36 to cable that this would be just as simple, boy was I wrong...snowball weld? Not a term I am familiar with....
  8. Hey guys, forgive me if I have asked this before and gotten an answer , I do have a horrible memory, I have an old wagon wheel that I squared up and want to forgeweld to a cable blade to use as a handle, but try as I might I cant get them to stick together. I am using a very high temp ( high yellow ) which I thought was the correct temp to get old iron to stick but I cant seem to get it to stick....

  13. That's a pretty cool hammer, I got a 5 lb ball peen hammer from a yard sale over the summer, going to have brent baily re-handle it and clean her up for me when I get the spare money. This one was apparently used for sheet metal work up at boeing by the guys father. I got it and a small hammer for 5 bucks each.

  15. Welcome to the group, lots of us here have medical and physical problems ( not to mention mental ones as well ) and that does not stop us from doing what we love to do, and neither should you. If you love something that much you keep trying to do it and give inspiration to others in similar situations. Glad you are here.... Horus
  16. There are lots of glassblowers here in the Seattle Tacoma area mostly because of Chihuly, as well as the burgeoning glass pipe market.....
  17. I am thinking about putting scrap stainless chips in with leftover cable damascus bits and 108x steel bits to see if I can get something interesting out of it. Anyone who has more experience at this sort of thing have any thoughts on this mixure?
  18. Thanks Rich, though I dont and havent used stainless for anything, I have ben considering mixing a large amount of leftover stainless chips from my shop at school in with some leftover cable and 108x steel bits and doing a melt once I finally finish my new forge. I wonder how it will come out or if it will work at all....
