I Forge Iron

round anvil1.jpg

New Toy. I don't think this is a round anvil but, a round anvil is what it's going to be used for. I was at the scrap yard today and was about back to my truck when I spotted it. It's steel and NOT cast. I've hit it with a welding slag hammer and didn't even mark it. Also hit it with my 4 lb hammer and didn't mark it. It's sitting next to a #150 Hay-Budden for comparison. I'm guessing the weight is around #100 or more.

I just sat it on the stump for compairson is all. It's gonna find a new home on top of something else. I have something in mind as soon as I get some time to mount it.

And I thought you experienced blacksmiths knew everything!

Don't you know an anvil egg when you see one? Bring it to me and I will incubate it for you. I think the gestation period is about three years though so don't look for it back too soon. :D

Mine weights in around 90#s so its not a small ball at all..the dia. is 24 inches and when I had the crane fellow use the magnet to load it,it was also magnitized...too cool! Now small sheet metal parts "stick" to it and make it easier to work.
