John E. - Good write-up... with you, JD Smith, and Bob Kramer recommending it, I've tried the no-flux method with a couple of billets. Here's a photo of my latest one - approx 1/2"x1-1/8"xmaybe12": seems solid - I'm working on making a chef's knife out of a chunk of it. Michael Kemp
