  1. I don't think I'm going to get it. The more I look at it, the more stuff sticks out. There is one about an hours drive from me the guy is willing to sell for $60. I will probably go check it out in a couple days to see how it looks in person. Thanks for the help guys!
  2. I've been eyeing this vise for a while now. It's really everything I want and within my price range. I know I could get cheaper, but work is too hectic right now to drive very far. This one just strikes my fancy. Is the crack anything to worry about though? It looks like it's just part of a sleeve and not the actual threads. If need be, could I straighten it out and weld it? Beyond that, any input would be great. Thanks a lot! 3. It's great to see someone else from Richmond on here! It's also really amazing that there is finally fire in that forge again! As a kid, I often went on tours at the museum. The blacksmith was always my favorite part! I'm new to everything still also, but am willing to help in any way I can! Good luck and keep up the great work! Matt
  4. You know, I may just have to! Seems like a great wealth of knowledge! The more I get into this, the more i realize how large of a community there is all eager to help and share what they know with people just starting out.
  5. I decided to buy it. It has a little sway, but nothing bad. The rebound is still great on it and edges are still very crisp! I'm going to pick it up Friday. I'll clean it up and post pictures of it all mounted up! Really excited to be getting my first real anvil!!
  6. Thanks a lot guys! I knew about the straight edge and bearing test. After what I've heard, I am fairly certain I will pull the trigger on this. Really seems too good to pass up on!
  7. Hello everyone! I've been smithing for several months now. I took a metallurgy class as a college elective and fell in love with it! I've been using a large piece of railroad track for a while now. Finally decided it was time to get a real anvil! I found this one close to me on craigslist. Looks like an excellent anvil and priced reasonable for the area. What are your thoughts? http://muncie.craigslist.org/tls/3719189904.html
