  1. Esseeman, Please take the extra time to place your posts in a proper area. This is a post about materials for knifemaking. We should not have to take time to put your entries in a place they belong in.
  2. The post that you took offense to offered you good advice. Advice that he has given to many folks in the past that moved forward in metal work as a result. Your response stepped over the line. I do not see anywhere in his post that he acted unrestrained or uncivil. Nor do I see him being disrespectful to you in any manner. This site has a lot to offer you but will not allow any member to abuse or be abused by another. Post any questions you have and use the answers to help you along.
  3. Kayakersteve, If I remember correectly you posted this in the blacksmithing threads. I was not sure exactly what you were going to quench and I sent you a private message asking you..After a day or so without a response i moved the thread on a wild guess it was about knife blades. A lot of folks post incorreectly in the blacksmithing area. Maybe it is because it is the first place on the home page. A good reason to look before posting is that some folks just follow certain areas as that is where they look and respond. This thread had good responses and seems like it answered your needs.
  4. That is a really nice addition to your shop. You posted in knife section,,,shall we leave it there or move to blacksmithing areas?
  5. This very item came up in another thread recently. When you heat metal up and cool it slowly in ashes or any other medium it is not normalizing, it. if done correctly is annealing. What you do may work well with your process for this steel in the manner you described. I just point this out as for new folks trying to absorb heat treat methods and terminology will do so faster if we post correctly.
  6. We have a knife chat on wed eves here and you may find some items to help you a long. Starts at ten pm EST, The log is then posted in the forums under knifemaking and all of the lesson we have completed are in there if you wish.
  7. Just to be consistant and provide the best information in the forums we need to be real carefull of the terminology we post. Smiths of all levels read these and they stay on site forever. We do not need a product like garden lime for normalizing. It may be that you meant you use that for annealing?
  8. Curious as to if you actually drew that up and typed all the parts in,,or if you copied it from a reference? If a copy was it from a copywritten piece?
  9. Seems to me that this offer for him to show you what he does at a fair price is not a bad way to go. I would expect that if you have a product you would expect the same?
  10. I am not sure what your skills are. If you are not you may want to think about next years gifts. If you can do the basics well then this should not be a challenge at all. It is not a begginer project..That said why not make one and see how it goes. Jigs can help in some cases. Turning the radiuses over the horn is one of the basics another is tapering..combine those and you have a lot of it done.
